According to the sacred Òrìsà Dídá / Érìndínlógún, there is a Mythical Sàngó
Ayílégbé-Òrun (Òrìsà) and a Historical Sàngó Tèllà-òkò (human), the third
Aláàfin (king).
In the Yorùbá mythology the Primordial Divinities created the Humanity and
the Humanity is the handwork of the Divinities. The Humanity is the lesser
Creation that can never be like Supreme entities (Òrìsà).
In the myth of creation of the universe, “Olódùmarè” is the Supreme Creator,
who delegated His powers to the “Òrìsà”, giving them the autonomy,
authority and freedom to act according to His will to create the earth and
interact with the Humanity.
Based on this Yorùbá theological concept, the Mythical Sàngó Ayílégbé-Òrun
(Òrìsà) was delegated some functions on the creation of the earth, as storms,
thunders and rays.

The Mythical Sàngó Ayílégbé-Òrun (Òrìsà) is a Primordial Divinity, which
descended from Ìkòlé Òrun during the time of Ìgbà Ìwásè (Beginning of the
World) and he is a divinity among the Yorùbá Òrìsà Pantheon in the Yorùbá
Indigenous Religion known as “Èsìn Òrìsà Ìbílè”.
Sàngó Ayílégbé-Òrun (Òrìsà) is the masculine force of the rivers, Oceans,
lakes and lagoons, which they can’t do anything without him being known as
their husband and the red colour of Sàngó (Òrìsà) represents the blood,
which symbolizes life.
On the other hand there is a Historical Sàngó, third Aláàfin (king), known as
Tèllà-òkò (human), who was a devotee of the primordial Sàngó Ayílégbé-
Òrun(Òrìsà).
Sàngó Tèllà-òkò (human) was a strong warrior, believed to be a physical
incarnation of the Òrìsà Sàngó Ayílégbé-Òrun, due to his mythical and
invisible powers used through the energy of the thunder and storms.
Sàngó Tèllà-òkò (human) was the son of Òrànmíyàn with Tòrosí from the
town of Tapa; the founder of Òyó Empire; the youngest of the grandsons of
Odùduwà.

Sàngó Tèllà-òkò (human) was a brave and powerful man that inherited most
of his special abilities from the Nupe, his mother’s people. During the reign of
Aláàfin Àjàká, Òyó was under a regular treat of war from Olówu, Àjàká’s
cousin; who rules Òwu Kingdom. Olówu later sent his warriors to capture
Aláàfin Àjàká and bring him to Òwu. In their bid to rescue Aláàfin Àjàká, the
Oyomesi (Oyo’s council of chiefs), sent for Sàngó Tèllà-òkò (human) in Nupe
land where he had lived. He rescued Àjàká and he was crowned King while
Àjàká was sent into exile.
Sàngó Tèllà-òkò Aláàfin (human), in his lifetime, had five wives, but three
were very closed to him, Obà , the first wife and in the traditional sense the
legitimate, Òsun , the second and Oya, the third, a concubine (as no marriage
right or dowry was paid on her) was a spirit who has the power to transform
from human to animal. She also had the power to summon rain. Together
with Sàngó Aláàfin thunderbolt, they had terrific victories in battle. The
resulting Jealousy by Obà and Òsun made Oya to be more close to Sàngó,
becoming his princess consort (Ayó (joy)) and having access to Sàngó
Aláàfin’s thunderbolt (Edùn àrá). Awa and Gambíolú were also among the
wives.

In one of Sàngó Aláàfin experiences trying to re-affirm the potency of his
thunderbolt, the thunder he created stroke the palace and burnt it down.
Obà and Òsun after losing everything, left the palace angrily blaming one
another for allowing Oya such access to Sàngó Aláàfin and disappeared
under the river Obà and Òsun under the river of Òsun . Oya, on her part,
went back to the forest in Nupe Land where Sàngó Aláàfin found her and
disappeared under the river Niger.
On the other hand Sàngó Aláàfin left the town followed by the chiefs
persuading him not to leave. After an unyielding persuasion, the chiefs went
back as they approach an Ìgbá tree, the news ran that the king has hanged
himself, but that was not true. Sàngó Aláàfin varnished into the earth, leaving
behind thunderbolt - Edùn àrá (òlépo lárá) taken from his own body and left
them with his chiefs. – Hence the popular saying Oba kòso or Olú kòso
meaning the king did not hang was created by the chiefs and the place where
Sàngó Aláàfin disappeared has became known as Kòso.
Mogbà is a contracted word from” Oní lé ogbà”, means “the house is
surrounded by fences” due to the fenced place where Sàngó Aláàfin
disappears.

Mogbà Kòso has been the owner of the Sàngó Aláàfin spiritual and mystical
crown “Adé Séséefun” since immemorial times, given by Aládèkún.
Oríkì
“Ládé “Ládé “Ládé
Aláàfin ò ládé Adé
Aládèkún la gbà fún aláàfin…”
“Lade Lade Lade
Aláàfin never owned a crown
It belong to Aládèkún…”
Today Kòso is a suburban district of Òyó, one of the holiest places of the city,
where the spirit of Sàngó inhabited the sacred site thousands of years ago.
There is no Aláàfin in Òyó, who will be installed without performing all the
rites of coronation inside Kòso temple.
Mogbà Kòso plays a crucial role in the royal succession, since he is the
custodian of the ancient shrine of Sàngó Kòso and the ancestral crown of
Sàngó, being responsible for the coronation of the new king.

Baálè the head of all Adósù Sàngó and any Elégún Sàngó is the living
embodiment of Sàngó, symbolizing the spiritual immortality.
In Òyó town the cult of Sàngó is differentiated as Sàngó Kòso and Sàngó
Ajòfà. The differences among them are related to the history of the Aláàfin
and the town of Òyó.
Sàngó Kòso is where the ancient power of Sàngó is laid and preserved,
therefore it belongs to all the Aláàfin, where they do their covenant with
their ancestors before receiving the Sàngó crown, on the other hand Sàngó
Ajòfà belongs to the town of Òyó. As well the Sàngó community in Òyó has
different Hierarchic systems related to the roles to be played in the
community, as the example followed:
The different Mogbà titles differentiate themselves by their roles played in
the affairs of the town concerning Sàngó.

In order to understand the earlier pre-colonial idea of a Yorùbá traditional
year calendar system, it is pertinent to reach the Yorùbá aborigine period
and myth of the creation of the world, being the base of the primordial
divinatory calendar, which is the first pillar of the Yorùbá social structure.
It is based on fixed number (4), which concept is related with the
traditional beliefs about the Universe being round and its creation started
with four corners.
This is the base of the Yorùbá week of 4 days, called “Oríta” – cross road.
The 4-Day Week marks values of the most important divinities in the Yorùbá
cosmology and the market cycle. The calendar has a very simple divinatory
matrix, which draws towards Yorùbá a past, reaching the aborigine of Òrìsà
Nlá period, going through cosmological spiritual sacred status.
In the beginning, there were no week days and “Elédùmarè” decided to give
the Òrìsà 4 Day Week.
Day 1 is dedicated to Ògún Òsè Ògún
Day 2 is dedicated to Sàngó Òsè Jàkúta
Day 3 is dedicated to Obàtálá Òsè Obàtálá
Day 4 is dedicated to the other Òrìsà Òsè Ayó (joy)

É baseado no número fixo (4), conceito
cosmologia iorubá e no ciclo do mercado.

Dia 2 é dedicado a Sàngó Òsè Jàkúta
Dia 3 é dedicado a Obàtálá Òsè Obàtálá
