as6920g throttling fix

Well, we have so much discussion on AS 6920G that would throttle(CPU) like crazy. Many AS 6920G users in the world doesn't know it is the CPU actually downclocking instead of the GPU. So, now, get to know about it. I highly believe the culprit behind this problem is Acer themselves. They provide some lousy BIOS setting which basically trigger the processor to throttle when hit certain temperature(LOL about 57.5C which is damn low). Moreover, the lousy BIOS setting is LOCKED! However, Tehsuigi claims that there is another possibility it is caused by thermal sensor thingy. Now! I found a way to stop THROTTLING permanently! RMClock is needed for doing this. Download it at, http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml Guide of RMclock(it is a downvolting guide but it teaches the basic function or how to use RMclock), The "Undervolting" Guide This tweak/solution is basically for AS 6920G. However, other gemstone blue model seem to be work with this solution/tweak as well.

Now! I found a way to stop THROTTLING permanently!RMClock is needed for doing this. Download it at, http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtmlGuide of RMclock(it is a downvolting guide but it teaches the basic function or how to use RMclock), The "Undervolting" GuideThis tweak/solution is basically for AS 6920G. However, other gemstone blue model seem to be work with this solution/tweak as well.

Before you start this tweak, make sure you know how to function RMclock. Please do set RMclock to Maximal Performance(FID) with lowest voltage(VID) you can apply(without Blue Screen of Death or randomly restart of the laptop). I do not suggest Performance on Demand. To increase the effectiveness, please do clean up the dust. For Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1GHz users, please set your FID = 11.0x(it is actually 10.5x but RMclock does not have "0.5x" wording, I explain like this might be easy for newbie) and VID = 0.925V

Then, go to your RMClock folder. Find RMClock_Tweaks. It is a Registration Entries file.Apply it.

Solution/Steps:

1.) Enter regedit(registry editor, click Start button, type in regedit and press enter).[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RightMark\RMClock]2.) Ok! Now, find UnlockEIST, IntelPMP4.EIST, UnlockFid, UnlockVid and UnlockTM2 to value 1. Basically, the original value is 0.

3.) Then, find CpuTempOffset. Open it up. You would see something like "000 00 ." inside CpuTemOffset, set it to "000 05 .". Please don't included the "". RMclock reads Penryn Processor temperature 5C lower than the original. Changing this value would show a correct temperature. This is trustworthy, Real Temp 3.0 and Everest Ultimate Edition both shown the processor 5C higher than RMclock shown.

4.) Restart your computer and have fun. Make sure your RMclock is turn-on(can set the RMClock to start automatically for every boot-up), if not, it won't work. You're

Page 2: AS6920g Throttling Fix

not totally done yet.

5.) To improve the reliability of this method, please follow this,http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...46#post5629246With the Power Option tweaking, the throttle point will be set higher slightly too. Done.

Advantages of this method:a.) Throttle gone(not sure work for everyone since there're no 100% fix currently).b.) Accurate/true temperature reading for T-series(santa rosa/penryn) processor.(+5C)c.) Lowered your Power usage(prolong battery mode).d.) Lowered your CPU temperature(might lowered the GPU temperature too because GPU and CPU share the same heatsink).

Test of Stability had been conducted(myself):a.) Left 4 Dead-ing for 1 hour and no throttle occurs. Usually, it occurs around 10minutes. But now nothing happen.b.) Orthos CPU stress for more than 3hours without a single problem.

Getting problem or this tweak didn't work? Follow this:

To those who can't perfectly uses this tweak/tricks, please do not panic. Kindly undo the registry tweak ONLY. Then, follow this semi-fix tweak. I copied this from Tehsuigi's topic(I lazy to type all over again, beside, Tehsuigi's English level is better than me).In most cases, though, it’ll just delay the throttling from occurring, or reducing the programs that will stress the CPU to that point. When the system DOES throttle, here’s an easy method of stopping it from doing so.1. Open up RMClock’s Advanced page, and click on the Throttling button.2. Ensure that both “Force normal throttling” and “Enable normal throttling” are unticked, and that “Lock throttling settings” and “Apply these settings at startup” are ticked.3. Leave the RMClock window open and on this screen when you play your game.4. When the throttle is activated, quickly Alt-Tab to your RMClock window and hit the Refresh button. The throttling status should change from “Inactive” to “Active” (duh).5. Click the Apply button. This should disable the throttle for the rest of your gameplay session!Important Notes:This tweak/fix might not able to solve every AS 6920G or other similar machines(AS 8920G, AS 8930G, AS 6935G and so on). This tweak/fix might cause system unstable to some machine(make sure you revert it back if this happen either system restore or regedit or wipe-out RMclock from your

Page 3: AS6920g Throttling Fix

system)Do not follow the screenshoots attachments I show below(in some replies), it may screw-up your laptop(not everyone but some). When asking for help please state some specification and laptop model.

Additional Step(I think this tweak only work for half-multiplier processor but it is harmless to try):Disabling Pop up mode and Pop down mode in Rmclock Advanced CPU Settings > Chipset. This may decrease CPU load and may lower the CPU temperature while idling.

Extra information:Some people said their AS 6920G have poor gaming performance.Download the latest Nvidia Geforce Forceware from Nvidia website,http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-usDownload the latest DirectX from Microsoft website, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=enInstall them of course. You would notice a huge performance improvement on gaming!

To those who're interested on more advance method and dare to try more:Moral Hazard and Weinter were trying to create some fixes to cure this problem. They're modifying DSDT and BIOS in order to solve this problem.PM them or read this(start from page 17), The Definitive Guide to Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue Throttling IssuesAdditional testing method,Try some 3D intensive game such as Left 4 Dead, Crysis, Assasin Creed, TF2 and so on for 1 hour or 2 hours. If you find your machine does not throttle after 1 or 2 hours of 3D intensive gameplay, you're done. Your machine is sucessfully get rid of Throttling.

Simple method to use RMclock:1.) Select Maximal Performance profiles, set it to the highest FID(do not choose FID if you're not using Half-Multiplier Processor).2.) After that, go to the main profile tab. You can see On AC and On Battery, Current and Start-up, all set to Maximal Performance.3.) Then, ticks all the index boxes below it, except IDA(unless you're using Half-Multiplier Processor).4.) Select a certain VID value on the highest index(not IDA unless you're using Half-Multiplier Processor).5.) Try all the VID value provided there until you get BSOD. If you get BSOD mean that VID value is not suitable for you and you can't go any lower.
