WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
QUESTION 6
HARDWARE & SOFTWARE
• Hardware• Hardware is a physical item I
used to produce my work. It is defined as “tools, machinery, and other durable equipment”
• Software • Software is a programme or
website which runs on hardware. It is defined as “the programs and other operating information used by a computer.”
When creating my media product I used a variety of different hardware and software to create my finished industry standard work. Without these essentials I would have been unable to complete my product to a professional standard and one which could be published as an official media product today.
Photoshop was the main piece of software I used for editing
and creating my magazine. The program allowed me to
construct my magazine and let me edit my images. The
program was vital in my work and without I would have been unable to complete my tasks.
Blogger was the main website used for recording my
development. The website allowed me to record all of my progress and research
while making the magazine, creating an in-depth log of
everything I did to create the products.
SOFTWARE
SOFTWARE - PHOTOSHOP
I then began to remove imperfections and things which may otherwise appear as unprofessional or distracting. With national magazines celebrities often have their imperfections photoshoped out. I did this using the spot healing tool and clone tool. The spot healing tool works by using the surrounding pixels to replaced the ones you have selected to remove. This makes for a natural removal of imperfections. The clone tool lets you use a brush to select and copy an area of the models skin and then brush it over a different section. I have also decided to move the models nose ring as I feel this will appeal to the target audience. Teenagers generally have piercings so I used the want tool to select, cut and then re-place the ring. As you can see I have successfully removed any flaws from the image.
When using photoshop I developed a number of skills when it came to editing my model, one of the most used ones way the spot healing tool. This tool allowed me to remove any blemishes or marks on my models face. By
selecting an area with the tool the program selects surrounding pixels and allows you to draw over the
marks, removing them and allowing them to blend in. This tool was important to me as it allowed me to make
my image look more appealing and I think it really helped my work. This page shows an example of one of the most
helpful tools.
Prezi was similar to Slideshare, used to present my own work
and the work of others onto my blogger; this platform meant I
was able to present my work in a media rich way which showed
my skills in using different media programs.
Slideshare was a website used that allowed me to
post different slideshows to my blogger, this meant I was able to post things I
found important and inspiring from my own work
and from others who had posted online. The online resource was useful as a mean of presentation.
HARDWARE
The Camera was my own and allowed me to take all the photographs. It was a DSLR and meant I was able to take high quality images
for my magazine which raised my product to an industry standard.
The Mac was the main piece of hardware used when producing my magazine, besides my
photos, everything was done on this. It contains all the software and programs that allowed us to create the magazine. Without the Mac product
would of never been created.
While using my camera I developed a number of photography skills, these included learning how to take high key images, how to take light projection images and how to take gell lighting images. These were invaluable
as they allowed me to put necessary professional looking images on my magazine
that were essential. The high key images were primarily used on all of my pages
through my product. High key were used on my Front cover and contents page. These
skills were important because without them I would have been unable to complete my
magazine to a professional industry standard.
SOFTWARE
Using Animoto was one of the most advanced means of presentation used in my work.
Animoto allowed me to create short video’s in a professional manner. The only issue with this
program is that it can often be unreliable, slow or unresponsive. For this reason I did not use
the program much at all apart from my evaluation, giving me the ability to showcase
my ability in regards to using media rich programs.
Emaze was a programme I used throughout my research and planning for its professional and reliable presentations. The media rich format
allowed me to show my ability to use a variety of different programs whilst creating a professional looking powerpoint of research. The program is
hosted online meaning I was easily able to embed it onto my research and planning blog.
SOFTWARE
Within my work I regularly made moodboard which I think reflected things such as my
audiences interests etc. Pinterest allowed me to create these boards using its image board option, creating individual folders for my
separate moodboards.
Visme was an online program which allowed me to create professional looking slideshows. I used Visme in my evaluation as I felt it was a program which gave me the ability to present my work in a
professional way. The program is similar
SOFTWARE
Microsoft Powerpoint was one of the software programs I used the most within my research and planning. I used this program as I felt it
created very professional looking slideshows. The program was also very reliable which
meant I was able to use it a lot within my work.
Powtoon was similar to powerpoint although it had the ability to add more in terms of
animations and creativity. The program allowed me to create more interactive and entertaining powerpoint with timed options. Although I liked
this program I felt that it had limited time options so it was difficult for readers to look at the slides
without having to pause. For this reason I preferred Powerpoint as a similar program, however, Powtoon was still very useful and
allowed me to explore other media rich programs within my work.
