Brief

‘Students to produce the front page, contents page and double page spread of a new music magazine. (Photoshop will be used for image manipulation and InDesign will be used for page layout and design features on contents page and article) All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate, minimum of four images per candidate.’

Mood Board; Front covers

I’ve been doing some initial research into magazines and I liked these ones because I like the colour scheme of the top of the pops magazine as it stands out and catches the audiences eye. I like the powerful ness of the main cover image in Q magazine as by just having one image of one celebrity is very powerful, however, I also like all the different groups of pictures in Kerrang magazine and the way they’re laid out. From the Kerrang magazine I also like how there isn’t very much text so your eyes are just drawn to the pictures and the big caption.

I’ve been doing some initial research into magazine contents pages and I liked these ones because the Kerrang magazine contents is full of pictures and less writing, which I like because its easy to look at and the pictures fill the space and tell you exactly what artist is going to be on that page. Again I like the colour scheme of the top of the pops magazine because it catches your eye also the way its laid out with a picture of the front cover on the contents page is effective because the reader knows exactly what they’re looking for, also the pictures next to the page reference is effective as it shows the reader who’s going to be on that page. I like Q’s contents page as it’s simple but effective and the picture of just the one band is effective and fills up the contents page and shows you don’t need lots of pictures.

Mood Boards; Articles I’ve been doing some initial research into magazine articles and I liked these ones because the colours on the top of the pops magazine go together and create an effective colour scheme. Also the pictures of the boys just in the middle is effective as the reader straight away knows who the article is about. I like the Kerrang magazine as it has more than one picture of them throughout their career and it matches the contents of the article. I like the Marion article as I like the way the information is laid out into different sections making it easy for the reader to know who they’re reading about.

• Out of all the magazines that one that appealed to me most was Kerrang magazine and because I this I shall do further research into this magazine.
