As I mentioned at the meeting last week, the theme new Rotary International President Ray Klinginsmith came up with for his year is “Building Commu-nities, Building Continents”.
The theme I have come with for the club for my year is “Do good work and have fun doing it, even if they steal my gavel in the first 10 minutes of my presidency” (I have a long memory Haydon!).
The idea is the more fun we have, the more members will attend the weekly meetings and get involved. I am open to your input, don’t be shy about of-fering it (but as I said, you might just end up on a committee!). I look for-ward to a great year! So come to the meetings, bring a guest, do good work, and have fun doing it!
District Governor Deepa Willingham has challenged us to meet some key goals:
Membership in excess of 4000 Rotarians by the end of this Rotary Year
A minimum of two new clubs
Reduction in number of members leaving Rotary (increased retention rate)
Increased diversity and better representation of local communities in
our Rotary Clubs
I magine the possibilities
N ever give up
S erve others
P articipate in the solution
I nstill values
R each those in need
E nergize the world toward peace

MONTHLY BILLING PLAN EFF 7/01/2010
SUMMARY
Convert from quarterly billing to monthly billing effective 07/01/10
Bills sent beginning of month for expenses (incl. meals) incurred prior month.
The first monthly bill (July) will be a transition bill. Since meals are no longer “pre-billed”, there will be no
meals billed on this bill. Meal adjustments and balances from prior quarter will appear on July bill. July bill
will also include $120 for annual dues.
WHY:
1) Improve cash flow to club
2) Easier for members to manage accounts
3) More current billing information
4) Help define cost of membership
5) Help keep costs more consistent & predictable
6) Reduce or eliminate member concerns about billing accuracy and billing disputes
7) Simplify current system of pre-billing meals.
BILL COMPONENTS
MONTHLY: (These charges will appear each month on your bill)
Meals: Based on actual meals consumed the prior month. $17.25 “eater”, $8.25 “non-eater”. Meals paid for
at meeting would not show on billing.
Fines: Fines will be billed at $8.33 per month ($100 per year).
Brags, Birthdays, Anniversaries: as incurred from prior month, unless paid at meeting. You will be asked to
sign an “IOU” if you want these added to your bill.
Polio +: $2.50 per month ($30 annual)
Exemption Badge: $2 per month
Club Admin Expense: $5 per month to cover miscellaneous club expenses (convention costs, district
assemblies and conferences, tax returns, etc) that have previously gone unfunded. This will minimize the
percentage of money from Funraiser proceeds that goes to club expenses vs. charitable gifts.

The Rotary Club of Santa Maria
ANNUAL: (These charges will appear once per year on your bill)
Annual Dues ($120): will appear on your July bill.
Paul Harris Groups: If you are in a group, your $100 annual commitment per group will appear
on your January bill.
NOTES:
No ticketed events, sponsorships or auction commitments will be billed. These shall be paid in
advance of the event and collected by respective committee. (FUNrasier, Step-Down,
Winemaker dinners, joint meetings, etc.)
You may elect to receive your monthly billing by email (preferred) or regular mail.
You may elect to join the “Century Club” if you do not want to be “fined” at meeting, but no
longer need to pre-pay $100. This will be collected monthly.
Some members choose to be fined more than $100 per year and will be given that option.
Members are asked to pay in a timely manner, see “Aging of Accounts” section below.
AGING OF ACCOUNTS
Billings will be sent the first week of the month and payments are “due upon receipt”.
If any amount becomes past due 60 days from the original billing date, the treasurer shall send
separate notification advising that amount must be paid within 5 business days, otherwise
billing privileges will be suspended and all subsequent expenses incurred will be on a “cash only”
basis until such time the account balance is brought to zero.
If any amount becomes past due 90 days from the original billing date, unless the account
balance is immediately brought to zero, the member must agree to a board approved payment
plan in a prompt and timely manner.
If any amount becomes past due 120 days from the original billing date AND a board approved
payment plan is not in place, OR if the member has failed to abide by the terms of a board
approved payment plan, the delinquent member may be terminated from the club.
