As children, do we have a natural ability and motivation to take up new interests (such as language, sports, and musical instruments) who as adults we seem to lose? Are there too many social pressures on adults or are there other reasons for the apparent decline in a human being’s capacity to learn? While I agree that children have a natural ability to learn fast and they have varied interests with high motivation, I am not convinced that adults don’t have the said ability and motivation. Children have entire time at their disposal for learning. Also they have high motivation compared to adults for learning new things and developing into the fields of music, sports, games etc. I am convinced that children's brains have a natural ability to absorb the new things fast. This is as part of their developmental growth; much of their achievement is because Schools motivate them to take many subjects. As children, do we have a natural ability and motivation to take up new interests(such as language, sports, and musical instruments) who as adults we seem to lose? Are there too many social pressures on adults or are there other reasons for theapparent decline in a human being’s capacity to learn? While I agree that children have a natural ability to learn fast and they havevaried interests with high motivation, I am not convinced that adults don’t havethe said ability and motivation.Children have entire time at their disposal for learning. Also they have highmotivation compared to adults for learning new things and developing into thefields of music, sports, games etc. I am convinced that children's brains have anatural ability to absorb the new things fast. This is as part of theirdevelopmental growth; much of their achievement is because Schools motivate themto take many subjects. Parents also motivate their children to practice new sportsor to learn music. Even their playmates force them to become better at computergames. In a way children enjoy learning and their environment is also favorableand highly motivating. However the said motivation is little less in adults due to work pressure, socialobligations, and many more. Nevertheless adults do like to learn and developthemselves to compete with others is also a proven fact. They can organize theirlearning by setting times for reading or practice. They can build on skills andexperiences they know. Nevertheless exceptionally some people may feel thatfurther learning is pointless for them may be because whatever they wanted toachieve in life they have achieved. Those are the adults with high sense of selfactualization and esteem. But for the younger adults to nurse the feelings thatthey are too busy with families and work and they can’t learn any more is merely apsychological barrier and have no roots in realism. In conclusion we cannot generalize anything on learning abilities of children andadults. It depends upon the motivation of the person and the environment.---------------------(294 Words)
