RACKMOUNT CHASSIS INSTALLATION
You should install the largest and heaviest items on the bottom of your rackmount rack.
• Ensure that the leveling jacks on the bottom of the rack are fully extended to the floor with the
full weight of the rack resting on them.
• In single rack installation, stabilizers should be attached to the rack. In multiple rack installations,
the racks should be coupled together.
• Always make sure the rack is stable before extending a component from the rack.
• You should extend only one component at a time - extending two or more simultaneously may
cause the rack to become unstable.
• Determine the placement of each component in the rack before you install the rails.
• Use a regulating uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect the server from power surges,
voltage spikes and to keep your system operating in case of a power failure.
• Allow any hot plug drives and power supply modules to cool before touching them.
• Always keep the rack's front door and all panels and components on the servers closed when not
servicing to maintain proper cooling.
• Equipment should be mounted into a rack so that the amount of airflow required for safe
operation is not compromised.
• Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the power supply circuitry
and the effect that any possible overloading of circuits might have on overcurrent protection and
power supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used
when addressing this concern.

MILESTONE XPROTECT+ BEST PRACTICES
From: https://developer.milestonesys.com/s/article/set-up-Recording-Server-for-best-
performance
• Configure your maximum recording and archive retention limits so that video is
deleted upon a set schedule, and not when the hard disk drive reaches its
maximum capacity. For best performance, we recommend to maintain at least
15% of the drive free.
• Configure the recording and archive hard drives to have a cluster size (block
size) of 64K or higher.
• Ensure RAID stripe size is set to 512K or higher.
Page 33
• Ensure recording and archiving drives (and their file systems) are healthy and
error-free. You can check the Windows System Event logs for NTFS errors or disk
corruption errors, and you can periodically perform a full Windows check disk
and S.M.A.R.T. scans (there are many free apps for S.M.A.R.T.).
• Disable real-time antivirus scanning; instead choose to scan the system based on
a schedule. Consult the XProtect Administrator's Manual regarding which
files/folders and processes to exclude. You can also find more information about
anti-virus scanning and XProtect in KB 1004, "Configure anti-virus software on
XProtect systems (best practices)."
• If your surveillance server storage has one single storage array, do not archive.
(See the corresponding KB 3614, "When should I archive?")
• Disable any non-essential Windows tasks and processes that affect the file
system. These could include the indexing service and the volume shadow copy
service. Also make sure to never use Windows drive compression as it will slow
down all write-to-disk operations.
• In the RecorderConfig.xml file, the "chunk_files" buffers should be set to 64K, as
per the example below. If they are not:
1. stop the Recording Server.
2. backup (create a copy of) the RecorderConfig.xml file, usually located in:
C:\ProgramData\XProtect Recording Server\
3. edit the XML file as shown below:
<chunk_files use_os_cache="true">
<read_buffer_size>65536</read_buffer_size>
<write_buffer_size>65536</write_buffer_size>
</chunk_files>
4. It may also be safe to make changes to the "disk_usage_monitor" section of the config
file. By default, the Recording Server will force an archive once an area has 5GB (or less)
free space and will delete footage if an area has 1GB (or less) free space; depending on
the number of cameras and the size of the storage area you may want to increase these
values.
<disk_usage_monitor>
<check_interval_in_seconds>10</check_interval_in_seconds>
<force_archive_limit_in_mb>5120</force_archive_limit_in_mb>
<force_delete_limit_in_mb>1024</force_delete_limit_in_mb>
</disk_usage_monitor>
5. Once you have edited and saved the configuration file, start the Recording Server again.
AVIGILON CONTROL CENTER BEST PRACTICES
Before starting the ACC setup and installation it is recommended that the built in Windows Server
2019 AntiVirus software (Windows Defender or any additional AntiVirus software loaded by the
Page 34
end user) be temporarily disabled or suspended. During the ACC installation a Storage Configuration will create a storage layout. If Windows Defender is enabled this process will take
multiple days to complete.
ACTIVATING WINDOWS® WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS
In the event that Internet access is not possible the Windows® Activation procedure can be
completed via the use of the Microsoft® Windows® Activation telephone hotline.
1. Log into the system as a member of the administrative group.
2. From the Start Screen, Type ‘slui 4’ click on the icon to run the wizard.
3. Select the nearest location from the drop-down menu and click “Next.”
Page 35
4. Call the phone number displayed and follow the promptings. You will have to provide the
“Installation ID” and will receive a “Confirmation ID.”
5. Click “Next” and follow the onscreen instructions to continue and complete the activation
process.
Page 36
ARXYS VIDEOX ENTERPRISE APPLIANCE MAINTENANCE
Although the Arxys VideoX Enterprise Appliance requires minimal maintenance, basic maintenance
will increase the lifespan of the hardware. Like the majority of equipment installed in a computer
hardware rack, the Arxys VideoX Enterprise Appliance uses a front intake and rear exhaust cooling
design. It is very important that the airflow of the cooling system is not blocked or hindered in any
way. The most common way that a server’s cooling system is blocked is by the accumulation of
dust in the front air intake passages of the server. At regular intervals the dust should be wiped
from the front bezel. Additionally, using compressed air to blow out the dust that has settled on
the drives bays will assist in keeping the Arxys VideoX Enterprise Appliance’s cooling system running
at its highest efficiency.
ARXYS VIDEOX ENTERPRISE APPLIANCE FIELD REPLACEABLE UNITS
The Arxys VideoX Enterprise Appliance utilizes redundant components that can be replaced while
the system is operating. These components are referred to as Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) and
are hot-swappable since they can be removed and installed while the system is powered on.
The Arxys VideoX Enterprise Appliance utilizes various FRUs in 2U and 4U configurations:
• Power Supply Modules
• Hard Drives
Both of these FRUs can be swapped in less than one minute by personnel that are familiar with
computer hardware. When replacing a failed FRU, make sure that a replacement FRU has been
received prior to removing the failed FRU. Removing a FRU for extended periods of time
compromises the airflow and cooling design of the Arxys VideoX Enterprise Appliance.
HARD DRIVE FRU REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
REMOVING HARD DRIVE CARRIERS
1. Press the release button on the drive carrier. This extends the drive carrier handle
Page 37
2. Use the handle to pull the drive carrier out of the chassis
NOTE: Arxys VideoX Enterprise Appliance date set hard drives have RAID redundancy to ensure
data availability in case of a hard drives failure and support hot-plug capability. Replacement
hard drives with carriers will ship directly from Arxys. Do not remove any hard drives while the
unit is powered on without express instruction from a Arxys technical support engineer.
INSTALLING HARD DRIVE CARRIERS
1. Verify that the replacement FRU part number matches the FRU that is being replaced.
2. Insert the replacement drive tray into the chassis. Make sure to press the drive carrier
handle closed until it clicks in place.
POWER SUPPLY MODULE FRU REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
POWER SUPPLY FAILURE
If either of the two power supply modules fails, the other module will take the full load and allow
the system to continue operation without interruption.
Replacement power supply modules will ship directly from Arxys. The power supply units have a
hot-swap capability, meaning you can replace the failed unit without powering down the system.
REMOVING A POWER SUPPLY MODULE
After identifying the failed power supply, remove the failed power supply.
1. Unplug the AC power cord from the failed power supply module.
Page 38
2. Orient the handle to pull it straight out
3. Depress the release tab on the power supply module.
