Unified Compliance Reporting and Enforcement
PacketSentry vProbe for VMware and XenServerComplete auditing, reporting and firewalling for the VMware and XenServer virtual environmentCHALLENGEThe proliferation of virtualization in the data center has created new chal-lenges for audit and security. The lack of visibility into virtual servers makes it challenging to identify virtual hosts that should be audited or secured. As a result, critical applications and data-bases lack audit controls on data access and administrator activity and are not segmented from the rest of the environ-ment. Audit findings, system or data compromise, and loss of reputation are all possible given the lack of controls in the virtual data center.
PacketSentry vProbePacketmotion’s PacketSentry solution was designed to provide broad support for compliance and audit reporting and security controls in a single offering. It delivers an identity-correlated audit trail of business transactions on the internal network, and supports firewall policies to segment and protect critical internal network resources. PacketSentry allows organizations to implement a broad set of IT controls on a single platform with no software agents or in-line appliances, lowering both deployment risk and the operational cost of compliance and audit.
The PacketSentry vProbe extends the award-winning PacketSentry solu-tion into the virtual data center. As an integral component of the PacketSentry
ChallengeVisibility, security, and auditing the VMware & XenServer virtual data center

User Transaction Monitoring for Citrix XenApp (Presentation Server) and Windows Terminal Services
Complete audit and reporting of all user activity in thin client environments, without client PC agents — absolutely no risk or impact to application performance!
The Challenge
Thin client computing solutions such as Citrix can lower the cost associated with maintaining client PCs, by virtualizing end-user applications on a shared server. However, because the server is sending network traffic on behalf of a large number of users, traditional network monitoring and analysis tools are unable to provide information specific to each user. This creates a challenge with respect to monitoring and auditing user activity as well as correlating bandwidth usage with specific individuals. Security investigations, regulatory compliance, and policy verification become more difficult, and using client PC monitoring agents is an undesirable solution because of the operational and administrative overhead.

IT security staff now have a consistent, detailed, identity-correlated view and record of all activity for those using Citrix XenApp and Windows Terminal Services as well as traditional access methods. User-centric compliance and policy reporting, security investigations, and application usage monitoring are all available seamlessly with other access methods, and all without any extra effort or operational overhead.

The Security Event Data Deluge
Monitoring user, system, and network activity enables organizations to effectively respond to risks, demonstrate compliance and conduct thorough investigations. Collecting, analyzing and storing event logs associated with this critical activity is challenging considering the lack of standardization and the sheer volume of event data.
Varied compliance mandates and industry requisites, such as SOX, HIPAA, PCI, GLBA, FISMA, and DCID, require consistent event monitoring, broad event log integration, appropriate investigation and data retention over significant periods of time. To meet these objectives, companies must:
Perform daily log review
Provide online log retention of at least one year
Monitor privileged user activity
Identify internal violations and sophisticated “low and slow” attacks
Conduct root cause analysis on system anomalies
Most enterprises generate millions of system and application activities per day. These records consume considerable processing and storage resources. Such security requisites can dramatically escalate data management complexity and costs. Conventional security information management systems are ill-equipped to handle the integration, volume, analysis and storage necessary to cost-effectively manage growth. As a result, analytical value from event log data is lost. SenSage offers the best solution.
Accelerate Security and Compliance Visibility
SenSage’s architecture and patented technology extend beyond real-time security event monitoring and alerting. The solution uniquely offers unparalleled precision, long-term search, trending and reporting against terabytes of diverse event data, while providing significant storage utilization and operational savings.
Integrate and aggregate varied common and custom log sources
Manage massive volumes of event data to reduce threat, internal violation and privacy risks
Accelerate compliance efforts and address data retention guidelines
Reduce log management storage, archive & administration costs
Readily expand capacity, performance and availability with deployment convenience
Intelligence. Available Now and Tomorrow.
SenSage eliminates the need for organizations to make operational and compliance compromises about which systems to monitor, which data to collect, and how long to utilize and retain event data online. SenSage’s purpose-built analytic repository does not rely on relational database management system (RDBMS) technology. This results in more cost-effective data retention, as well as high performance reporting and analysis. SenSage customers analyze years and terabytes worth of information with considerably faster, more precise and more consistent results than that of RDBMS-reliant systems. SenSage’s optimized data store reduces necessary storage resources and also avoids the high administrative costs associated with managing an RDBMS or distributed appliance architecture.

City Administrator’s Message
Economic development; jobs; a sustainable eco-nomic environment… Every politician talks about
these needs because without them a community can not exist. Successful communities enjoy a balance of afford-able housing and development that creates jobs. In order to create and maintain that balance communities must con-stantly reinvent themselves, regularly adjusting to chang-ing times. It’s no secret that our nation is experiencing the worst depression since the Great Depression; and while this recession may get worse before it gets better, history teaches us that at some point there will be a recovery. The communities that will profit most from the eventual re-covery will be those that prepare for the next change in the economic cycle.
So here is where you can help. The businesses most likely to relocate to a community are those that already have a relationship of some kind in the community. You might buy or sell a product with someone who is looking for a place to expand their business; there may be someone you know who is a decision maker in a business who has vacationed here on a regular basis; it could be some-one you know who already lives in Madera, has a good idea and wants to start a business, but needs help. Each of these examples has the po-tential to create a new business in Madera and provide jobs.
There is LOTS of assistance available for business looking to relocate or start in Madera. As-sistance is available for identifying sites for construction; low interest
loans are available; and tax credits of various types are available through State and Federal programs. All of this assistance is a phone call away. The staff at the Madera County Eco-nomic Development Commission can be reached at 675-7768.
The economic vitality of Madera is everyone’s business; take a mo-ment and see if there’s an opportu-nity simply waiting to be recognized right in front of you!

After 16 yeArs of hArd work, excavating over 14,000 fossils dating back to the mid-Pleistocene epoch (over half a million years ago), from over three dozens species, securing building grants, permits, and, upon obtaining the County’s blessing and purchase of a 4 acre lot near the dig site, the san Joaquin Valley Paleontology foundation finally broke ground at the future museum site last february.
the fossil discovery Center will open its doors, later this year, to a state of the art facility that will be the envy of all paleontologists everywhere: the Center will feature the latest in display technologies and will provide educational tools and opportunities designed not only to attract and
retain paleontology luminaries and students from around the world, but the Center will also provide Madera County with an impressive tourist attraction.we have secured grants to build the Center; we now need funds to cover operating costs. we are currently seeking individual and group memberships, and offering sponsorship opportunities to local, state and nationwide businesses as well as educational institutions.
the foundation invites you to make your own indelible, fossilized prints on the new discovery Center via your membership or by sponsoring various aspects of the Center, including exhibits, advertising and to help fund the operations of this world class facility.
