The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC

PART : A

The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality

enhancement and outcome achieved by the end of the year.

The IQAC of the college, Patel J.B.R. Arts, Patel A.M.R. Commerce & Patel J.D.K.D.

Science College, Borsad was formed in the year 2008-09 itself and as per the guidelines, the

committee chalked out a plan of action for the quality enhancement in the beginning of the year

2011-12.

On 23/06/2010, a meeting of IQAC of the college was held to work out the plan of action

for the new academic year in accordance with the guidelines set by NAAC.

On 07/01/2011 a meeting of IQAC of the college was held to review the progress of the

college.

The plan Includes various curricular, extra-curricular and extenSlon activities prepared in

consultation with the H.O.Ds. and the conveners of all the departments and committees of the

college. Actually speaking, the college has been holding the tradition of preparing such plan called

„Annual Academic Calendar‟ for years now.

In order to ensure relevance and quality of academic and research programmes, the

optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning, the adequacy,

maintenance and the functioning of the support structure and services, research sharing and

networking with other institutions, the IQAC of the college prepared a plan for the academic year

2011-12.

For the academic year 2011-2012 various curricular, extra-curricular and extension

activities were included in the plan. All the activities were meant to facilitate the creation of a

„learner-centric‟ environment conductive for quality education and faculty maturation. It includes

the various activities to be done by the various departments and the college committees.

The outcome achieved by the end of the year :

• The H.O.Ds of all the departments along with the AdmisSlon Committee actively involved

themselves in the counseling of the students who aspired for admisSlon in the college after the

declatation of XII results.

• The „Wel-come Function‟ for the first year students and was held on 03/07/10 where in the

newcomers were addressed by the Principal, H.O.Ds and the conveners of all Committees

giving them detailed information about the colleges, subjects, various curricular, co- curricular,

extra curricular, extenSlon activities, traditions, examination system, various rules, regulations

and norms of the college and the univerSlty. The students were encouraged to study well and to

participate in all activities actively.

• Regular class-room teaching got started from the very first day of the academic year. The new

system „IQAC‟ has been introduced Slnce this year in the first year at UG level in all the

colleges of Gujarat UniverSlty. The first semester was started from the 15th

of June only.

• Detailed informations about the syllabus, question-paper format, text-books and reference

books were given in each subject and course or paper.

• Two internal exams were conducted as per the schedule worked out by the univerSlty. The assessed

answer-books were also exhibited to the students, detailed discusSlons correcting their mistakes

and methods. In the first year, one internal test in the first semester and one internal in the

second semester was conducted according to the univerSlty guidelines and calendar.

• Class-room seminars, asSlgnments, college seminars, Guest Lectures, Book and Poster

Exhibitions, plants Exhibitions, Home-asSlgnments, Library SesSlons were conducted by

various departments and Committees.

• The college has made arrangements to start Remedial Coaching classes for S.C./S.T./O.B.C. &

Minorities for the next academic year. The Remedial Coaching classed for SC/ST/OBC and

Minorities were conducted according to a specifically made time-table. Experts of various

subjects were invited for the same. Various co-curricular and extra curricular activities like

Calligraphy Competition, slogans Writing Competition, Pure Writing Competition, Exchanging

and Circulating Books under the „Departmental Library‟ system, Essay Writing Competition,

Poetry Supplementary Competition, Poetry Recitation Competition, Debate, Elocution

Competition, Mono Acting were held by various departments and committees during the year.

• The students were, as usual, encouraged and guided continuously to particaipate

actively in creative writing and research work. The students contributed their creative

writings like articles, poems, one-liners, quotable quotes, views and opinions to the two

Wall Magazines named „ Sarvani‟ run by Mr.S.H.Shah, Dept. of Chemistry

The P.G. and U.G. students of the Dept. of Gujarati contributed their creative

writings like articles, poems, one-liners, quotable quotes, views, posters and

photographs of writers and poets of Gujarati and English literature to „ Vividha‟, a

yearly manuscript volume of creative writings of the students of the department. The

students were encouraged and guided by the faculty members Dr.S.U.Vyas,

Mr.S.L.Patel and Mr.J.P.Trivedi. The manuscript is published every year on the Annual

Day of the college. This year it was „Vividha V‟as I, II, III and IV volumes had been

published during the previous years.

• „ My college, My voice‟, the newsletter is published regularly every month

highlighting activities and important events conducted or occurred. It also includes

creative writing like poems, articles, quotable quotes contributed by the students and

the faculty.

Effective counseling was undertaken to explain importance of aquiring profesSlonal

skills availed by Fashion DeSlgning, Translation Profiency and Tourism, the three

certificate courses run by the institution under the Career Oriented Programmes

(C.O.P.).

This year 28 students got enrolled for Fashion DeSlgning, 17 for Translation Profiency

and 23 for Tourism.

A separate time-table was made for all courses and classes were conducted

accordingly. Miss Shital Munia was invited as viSlting faculties for

Fashion DeSlgning and Tourism respectively. While Dr.R.K.Supahia, a part-time lecturer

Dept. of Hindi, Dr.S.U.Vyas, Dept. of Gujarati and Mr. S.J.Dabhi, Dept. of English,

handled Translation Proficiency Courses.

Experts like Mr. U.R. Kavami, J.M. Patel College of P.G. Studies & Research in

Humanities, Anand, Mr.Girish Rohit, Arts, Commerce and Science College, Khambhat,

Ms. Shital Munia P.G. Dept. of Home Science, S.P. UniverSlty, V.V. Nagar were called for

the viva at the and of the courses in January 2012.

An educational viSlt for the students of Fashion DeSlgning was arranged on 03/01/2012. The

students along with Dr.S.U.Vyas, H.O.D., Dept. of Gujarati and and Prof.

In-charge, Fashion DeSlgning, Ms. Shital Munia viSlted the Textile and Clothing

Department of Home Science, S.P.UniverSlty, V.V.Nagar.

A Home-AsSlgnment Projects were conducted for the students of Tourism and

Translation Proficiency.

• A number of programmes were organized and conducted as a part of the „Swarnim

Gujarat Celebrations‟, the celebrations of the 50th year of the formation (Golden Jubilee) of

the State. It is one of the biggest, longest and most pompous celebration ever taken place in

the history of Gujarat. The State Government has formulated a Seven Fold Programme

called „Sapt Dhara‟ for all the educational institutions of Gujarat. This „Sapt Dhara‟ ( even

Streams) included, as mentioned earlier, all the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Just like previous year, the seven Committees, worked out their schedules of programmes

in accoradance with the general schedule as formed by the state Government. Activities

like Elocution, Mono Acting, Light Vocal MuSlc, Essay Writing, Quiz, Traffic Awareness

programme, Cricket Tournament.

Semester. Dr.S.U.Vyas, H.O.D., Mr. S.L.Patel, Dept. of Gujarati and

teach at the centre. Six visiting faculties Mr. Pragnesh Goswami, Ms. Damyanti

Parmar, Mr. Vijay Zala were also invited.

• The numbers of the students with less than 75% presence every month were displayed

on the notice-board and also submitted to the principal for necessary steps.

by inculcating a stimulating learning environment for all-round development of

students at mental, physical, social and spiritual level to make citizens with good

conduct, patriotism and thereby making young India of high and competitive

challenges.

OUR GOALS & OBJECTIVES

To avail the best education for the upliftment, development, regeneration and

reorientation of the rural people.

To endeavor to evolve positive societal changes.

To help the common mass gather enough strength and develop vision to

augment creative innovation for the rise of all.

To sow and cultivate the seeds of moral values and ethics among the

youngsters.

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institutions :

The college is located in the rural area. The students who get admitted belong to the various

interior rural part of the Borasd taluka. The college avails them the much needed opportunity to get

higher education. The college offers graduation programmes in all three faculties – Arts,

Commerce and Science with six subjects – Gujarati, Hindi, Economics, History, Accountancy and

Chemistry. The college also avails a P.G. programme (M.A.) in Gujarati. Apart from this. The

college runs a vocational course „Functional ( Communicative) English‟ and three Career Oriented

Programmes (C.O.Ps) like Fashion Designing, Translation Proficiency and Tourism. Above and

over these, the college runs Baba Saheb Ambedkar Open University Study Centre offering 13

programmes (8 – Certificate Courses, 2 – UG Courses and 3 – PG Courses).

Apart from these , the college runs activities like N.C.C., N.S.S., Sports and C.W.D.C.

(Collegiate Women‟s Development Cell ). These activities regularly take place disseminating

theoretical and practical knowledge of various fields. The students of the college enthusiastically

participate and thus get benefited. Sunday parades, Various Local, Statelevel and National N.C.C.

Camps, N.S.S. Camps, Social activities like Cleanliness Drive in adopted village, Blood Donation

and Check-up Camps, Arranging Social/Health awareness Lectures of experts, Arranging Meetings

and Various Competitions.

Along with the curricular activities, the college conducts co-curricular, and Extra-

curricular activities. One Wall-Magazine „Sarwani‟ is being run. Wall-magazine has contributed a

lot in bringing forth the creative skills of the students. „Shubhra‟ is the college magazine and „My

college, My Voice‟ is the News-Letter of the college. They have truly availed a big pool of

inspiration and thus have enhanced the interest of the students in creative writing and research.

Healthy practice like Morning Prayers and Post-Prayer Talk by the students have been the

tradition of the college. Effecting upward social mobility by instilling the sense of self-discipline

among the students which is of the objectives of the institution.

The college takes every care to see that each student enrolled at the first year passed

through the medical Check-up. The first Aid Box with all the required equipments and medicines is

available in the office of the college.

The institution avails a myriad of opportunities in sports by availing all the faculties and

also practice for various indoor and outdoor games like Chess, Table-Tennis, Volly- ball, Kho-

Kho, athletics, Long jump, High-jump etc. The college has a big ground and sports equipments.

The students enthusiastically participate and get glorious results.

The method of teaching at the college has gone under a tremendous change. Retaining

lecture method as the main source of imparting education, various new innovative techniques like

class-room seminars, college-level seminars, book-exhibitions, language exhibitions, library

sessions, home-assingments, poster presentations, power point presentations, presentations through

O.H.P., video coferncing (BISAG programmes), educational visits etc, have also been incorporated

to not only disseminate information but to effect an over all development of the learners.

To inculcate cultural values and to bequethe the great Indian culrural heritage, various

cultural activities like folk-dance, vocal music, rangoli, skit, hair-style competition, mehandi

competition etc, are regularly organized by the various departments and committees of the college.

For inter-college or University level or inter-university level competitions (Youth festival), the

college avails professional trainers to train the students.

Efforts for enhancing chances for the employment of the passed-out students have been

being made continuously by the institution. Various industries are approached and the passed-out

students are placed in their contacts. The institution implements schemes of the government

employment office also. ( details given in point no. 37 of Part B) Information and guidance for

further study or future career is also availed at the college. Seminars are arranged and experts are

invited to give information and guidance.

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction :

The college does not have to frame any curricular and syllabus. It is the university (Gujarat

University) which makes curricular designs or makes change the college has to follow them. The

syllabus of various C.O.Ps (Translation proficiency Tourism and Fashion Designing ) are formed

in consultation with the persons having deep knowledge and experience of particular field/skill and

taking the local needs of the area and population into consideration.

The examinations, two internal and an arrear, are conducted at the institutions

according to the rules and regulations set by the Gujarat University. The external exam is

exclusively conducted by the university. The college conducts a unit test in each subjects

and in each paper every month.

The principal of the college takes student assessment of teachers in his separate

proforma. The principal conducts the teachers‟ assessment by administering. „Self

Assessment forms‟ among them. Several faculty members also take feed-back about their

teaching or programmes/activities conducted by them with feed-back forms. Needful

actions are taken by the principal and the faculty members on the basis of the student

assessment of the teachers.

25. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination

results, issue of certificates :

The administration of the college has been partially computerized.

The process of admission is undertaken as per the rules and regulations of the Gujarat

University. However, as the college belongs to rural area and the primary objective of the

institution is to bring about welfare of the rural people, the norm of „cut-off marks‟ is not

observed. Instead, admissions are given on the „First Come, First Served‟ basis.

Examination results are declared by the University after the final examination. The

college awards internal marks out of 30 in each subject and paper. The University exam is of 70

marks. The passing marks in internal evaluation is 11 out of 30 while it is 25 out of 70 in

external examination. The college submits the university the internal marks and it is the

university that declares the results on the basis of both internal and external evaluations.

Again, it is the university that issues the certificates.

In C.O.Ps., Fashion Designing, Translation Proficiency and Tourism, exams are

conducted by the institution, results are declared by the institution and the certificates are

also issued by the institution. The university examination (2009-10) result is attached

with this.

Computer and Internet are there in the computer laboratory and NRC ( Network Resource

Centre) and also in the staff room for the use of the teachers and students.

District Level job fair was arranged at the college campus on 25/11/11 in association with

EMRI 108 Ambulance Services of Gujarat for the post of Emergency Medical Technician,

The college subscribes magazines like Employment News, Rojgar Samachar, Immigration

Times, Liberty Career News, Latest facts in General Knowledge, Competition Affairs etc.
