Aim to develop Australia’s links with Europe, through research collaboration, seminars and conferences and as a centre of study for Australian students

Chamber Music in Prato

Summer Semester in alternating years. In 2012 it is the Chamber Music at Prato

Classical / Chamber Music in Prato - 19 November to 7 December 2012

The Chamber Music at Prato program includes string, voice, wind, piano, composition and brass students

The 2010 program included work with eminent European musicians, including:

– Professor of Flute from Belgrade University– Ljubisa Jovanovic and Helfried Fister from Cologne– Italian musicians from the local Verdi School provided students and staff with valuable

insight into the style and gesture of Italian music making

Students also travelled to Florence enjoying concerts featuring world class musicians such as Yo Yo Ma, Mischa Maisky, and Julian Rachlin

Jazz Music in Prato

Summer Semester in alternating years. In 2012 it is the Chamber Music at Prato

2013 (Dates TBC)

Students participate in workshops with acclaimed Italian jazz musicians and academics from diverse backgrounds

In 2009 these included Mirko Guerrini and Cristina Zavalloni as well as premier international jazz artists like Paul McCandless

In 2009 Monash students also worked alongside students from the local music school Scuola Comuale di Musica 'Guiseppi Verdi' preparing for a series of performances at local popular jazz clubs and the beautiful Magnolfi Theatre.

The tour culminated in a week-long residency at a jazz club in Verona, Italy where students attended classes by day and performed by night.

Other activities included master classes, classes in practice technique, ear training and Italian
