Artist Trading Cards Directions for the second layer (Part 2): 1. Photograph your collage and email it to yourself. You can use your phone or our class iPad. Helpful tip - make sure there is enough lighting on your collage to get a good picture. If the image is too dark you will lose some details. 2. Download the image from your email and make a copy on your desktop. 3. Create a new document in Adobe Illustrator. 4. File > Place your images into your new document. MAKE SURE THAT YOU EMBED YOUR PICTURES! 5. Scale your images to fit inside the picture frame. 6. Copy and paste your image 4 times. 7. Artist Trading CardsDirections for the second layer (Part 2):

1. Photograph your collage and email it to yourself. You can use your phone or our class iPad.

Listed below are some possibilities on how you might begin using the computer to manipulate your collage.

Look back through our past projects to refresh your memory about the tools and palettes we have used thus far. The objective of this project is to allow you to buid on past knowledge to create your own ideas with the tools you have learned to use.

Quick list of ideas - For best results add several ideas / tools to a single image.

Live Trace (Object > Live Trace > Tracing Options)

Cliping masks (Object > Clipping Mask > Make)

Change transparency (Window > Transparency)

Trace elements with the pen tool

Create complex shapes and arrange them in patterns over your collage. (See Building Design Essentials Project)

Draw 4 boxes that are 2.5” x 3.5”. These will be the size of your Artist Trading Cards.

Helpful Tip - To create a shape that is the perfect size,

next, click once on your document. A box will pop up where you can type in the exact size of the shape that you want.

1. Place the 2.5” x 3.5” box over the part of your collage that you want to keep.

2. Select the collage image and the box. (The box must be a fill not just a stroke.)

3. Object > Clipping mask > Make.

4. After you finish the imageon one layer you may want to lock it and hide itso you can work on the other pieces withoutthings getting in your way.
