HomePurpose:

The purpose of this WebQuest is to educated students on famous artist of the Italian Renaissance. Due to the popularity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, many are already familiar with the names of Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Raphael, yet many cannot even name a piece of art or work constructed by either one of the artist. Additionally many only assume that the four mentioned above are the only artist of any significance. It’s important that students are educated and have a full knowledge of the artiest and the things they contributed to this time.

Introduction

The years 1519, early 16th century. Italy and Europe has been witnessing the Renaissance since the early 14th century. Considering how for hundred of years after the collapse of Rome, this region has seen nothing but turmoil, this is now considered a great way of life. Since the beginning of the Renaissance many advancements have come forward in the sciences, arts and education all due to a new wave of people known as “Humanist.” These people believe in reintroducing the ideas of Rome and Greece to help reconstruct civilization. Among these Humanist are painters, sculptors, architects, musicians, mathematicians, engineers, inventors anatomist, geologist and writers. You could call these guys true “Renaissance Men.” Today, on May 2, 1519, you hear word that one of these individuals, a man by the name of Leonardo Di Vinci has just passed away in France. You’ve always heard the name, but had no idea exactly who he was or what he did. Furthermore, you hear there are many more like him but you haven’t done much research. You’ve always had a desire to study up on these people, but things kept getting in the way. Now, more than ever, you feel that this is the time to do so!

Task You will break into groups of 3 to 4 and gather information that will aid in your understanding of the significance of Italian Artist during the Renaissance. You will gain information by picking from a list of artist, one significant figure and searching the web for credible sites covering the picked figure. I will provide you with a few websites for use as either as an example of research or as something to be used as part of your presentation, but it is your job as a group to conduct this study on your own. You will need to find 3-4 more websites. With the information found, you will do a Prezi presentation at least 9 slides long discussing the artist’s life as well as information on a piece of work that they completed. The name of the work and the date it was completed must be included. You must explain the significance of the work and why it’s so famous today.
