GEORGES BIZET-Born in Paris, France on October 25, 1838.- Father - singing teacher and

hairdresser/wigmaker. Mother – accomplished professional pianist

- Started studying at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 9.

- Friends and classmates with Charles Gounod and _____________________

- Won the Conservatory’ piano competition at age ___. Had gotten 2nd the year before!!

-began composing at age 13 – two pieces published

Georges Bizet

- wrote his first ____________at 17.-met Rossini and won a comp-osition for a vocal setting at 19.-won the Prix de Rome competition later that same year.-really began to focus on incidental music and opera. He composed l’Arlesienne in 1872 and __________ in 1874.-died on June 3, 1875 of a heart attack (broken heart……)

PATRICK ROUX- Born in Marsellie, France in 1962.-Moved to Canada at age of 6.-Studied with David Russell, on Scholarship in England. Studied Also with Leo Brouwer and Barrueco-Teaches at the Conservatory de Musique in Quebec and at University of Ottowa-formed the Canadian Guitar Quartet in 1999-Began composing in 1990 and has composed for solo, duo, trio, quartet and for guitars with other instruments
