LIFE• Life is a characteristic that distinguishes objects that have signaling and self-sustaining

processes from those that do not, either because such functions have ceased, or else because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate. In South Africa, a life sentence is mandatory for premeditated murder, gang rape, serial rape, rape where the rapist knew they were HIV positive, or if the victim was under 18 and/or mentally disabled. In certain circumstances, robberies and hijackings also carry a mandatory life sentence.

• In the book they didn’t really have a life because they was always getting push around getting told what to do and not doing really what thy wanted to do. It was really like slavery all over again.

Liberty• Liberty is a contested moral and political principle that seeks to identify the

condition in which human beings are able to govern themselves. There are different conceptions of liberty, which articulate the relationship of individuals to society in different ways, including some which relate to life under a "social contract" or to existence in a "state of nature", and some which see the active exercise of freedom and rights as essential to liberty. Understanding liberty involves how we imagine the roles and responsibilities of the individual in society in relationship to conceptions of free will and determinism, which involves the larger domain of metaphysics.

• They didn't really have that much Liberty/freedom because they all they was ever doing was being push around by the soldiers all day long. Every day they do the same stuff , do threw the same route and the always being bullied.

Security of person

• Security of the person is a basic entitlement guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948. It is also a human right explicitly mentioned and protected by the Constitution of Canada, the Constitution of South Africa and other laws around the world.

• With its widely dispersed populations, concentrations of people in one area seldom intruded on the security consciousness else where on the African continent. 23 Boundaries between security communities were imprecise and fluid, and it was unclear where one area of authority ended and another began. The result was that pre-colonial African states were exceptionally dynamic.
