ART Week!

This week is Art week! There are a range of different activities for you to choose from on the following slide. Make sure to try a variety of different activities and don’t worry if it takes you longer than one

session. Below is a suggested timetable for your Art week.

Colour mixing

The primary colours are Red, Yellow and Blue. You can mix these to make different colours.

Red + Yellow = Orange

Red + Blue = Purple

Yellow + Blue = Green

Have a go at making your own colour wheel. You could use a paper plate and divide it into 6 equal sections.

Adding white or black to a colour

Choose a primary or secondary colour. What happens if you add white paint to it?

See how many different tones of your colour you can make. Cut a strip of paper and fold it into 6 sections. Start with your chosen colour and gradually add white to it. Each time you paint a new section add a bit more white.

You can repeat this by adding black to a colour and see what happens.

Colour CollageCan you make your own colour collage flower or rainbow? Use coloured paper or cut up painted pieces or even use scraps of materials to stick onto your artwork. Be as creative as you can!

Famous Artists

Research a famous artist and write 5 facts about them. Look at some examples of their work and say what you like or dislike about it. You could choose one of these artists. An example of their work is on the first slide. Use template on slide…

• Georges Seurat

• Henri Rousseau

• Vincent Van Gogh

• Wassily Kandinsky

• Leonid Afremov

Vincent Van Gogh

Watch the video link below and look at Van Gogh’s painting ‘The olive trees’ look at the brushstrokes and how he swirls the paint to make marks. Try to recreate your own version of this painting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lGEvm1Lve0

Sketching a face Have a go at sketching a face. You can draw from a photo, real life or you can copy the video link below. Remember to press gently to draw the basic shapes and then carefully make marks to show direction and textures. Finally shade the darker shadows and rub out lighter areas to make it look more realistic.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyPPtwry3po

How to draw a toucan

Look at Henri Rousseau’s toucan painting. Have a go at sketching a toucan using the video link below. Use coloured pencils, oil pastels or paint to make your toucan colourful. You can create your own colourful bird pictures.

Leonid AfremovLeonid Afremov was an artist who loved painting animals and scenes. He used oil paint and a palette knife to create texture on his canvases. Have a look at some of his animal artwork or city scenes and then create your own piece of art work. Remember to use lots of colour.

Printing

Have a look around your house or classroom for things that you could use to print with. These could be lego blocks, bubble wrap, leaves, wheels on toy cars, string, forks, potatoes/fruit cut in half, lids off containers etc. Mix up some paint and dip your objects into it to create your own art work. See what patterns you can make. (Wear an apron it could get messy!)

Paper plate art workHave a look at some of the images below to make your own paper plate art work. You can collage your plate. To make curls, cut strips of paper and wrap them around a pencil.

Soap SculptureFollow this link to watch a video on making

sculptures out of dry materials. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbppqfr

What is a sculpture? Is it 2D or 3D? Today you are going to make sculpture out of soap.

You will need a bar of soap, a pencil, something to carve (teaspoon, potato peeler, scissors etc.) Follow the step by step guide

on how to create your sculpture https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/make/sculpture/soap

-carving

Drawing largeStart off by watching the following link to

the idea of ‘drawing large’ – once you’ve watched, you can have a try at creating your

own drawing. Try to draw standing up, remember to continue looking back to your chosen object and then don’t forget to add

detail. https://vimeo.com/423967574

Piet Mondrian

Piet Mondrian is an artist that likes to use the primary colours. He became interested in

abstract art; he uses colours, lines and shapes to express himself. Mondrian used

the primary colour with black lines and white spaces.

Make a Mondrian inspired collage with paper or draw/paint your very own piece on paper.

Drawing small Start off by watching the following link on ‘drawing small’. You will need to find various

small objects from around your house to draw. This will continue to support your

drawing skills and how to add intricate detail to drawings.

How did this task differ to ‘drawing large’? What different techniques did you use?

Grannies of the World – A story of kindness during 2020 Coronavirus Crisis’. Now you’ve heard the story, can you create your own

illustration (drawing) of one of your grandparents, or someone you love,

reflecting their kindness?
