ART PROJECTS AND PROCESSES OF

SEMESTER 1!

Page 2: Art Projects and Processes of Semester 1!

During the first semester the projects accomplished gave opportunity to grow as artists and not judge our work for the worst if it’s the absolute best that we can do. Some work required us to become comfortable with medium we weren’t used to, and use new ideas to juxtapose our art.

Through creating simple drawings and reviewing the Principles and Elements of art first semester helped us get comfortable with drawing again. At the same time we experienced drawing with new tools such as pens and chalk pastels. Although it wasn’t always fun or easy our works were successful and pushed us to move forward with our ideas.

SUMMARY

Page 3: Art Projects and Processes of Semester 1!

For this project a principle and element was at each table. We started by using pencil and as we moved around we could use marker and/or color pencil. While we moved we had to incorporate another principle and element to our drawing.

Elements: Line, Shape, Form, Value, Color, Space, and Texture

Principles: Contrast, Emphasis, Rhythm, Movement, Pattern/Repetition, and Unity

Medium: Graphite, Marker, Color pencils, Pastels

INTRO PROJECT

The review of Review of Principles and Elements challenged us to add each principle and element into our drawing. We had to simultaneously use the art tools designated at each table.

INTRO PROJECT (CONT.)

During the Still Life Project three vegetables or fruit were chosen for us and put under a spotlight to ensure we could capture values and shadows. For this project we used chalk pastels and black paper which was helpful to exaggerate the colors the way the light did.

STILL LIFE FRUIT & VEGGIE

At the beginning I tried to use values first but I figured out that outlining the fruit and vegetables was easiest because I could go back to add light sources. After outlining I added contour lines to make them round. Then shadows to show they were on a table. Medium: Chalk pastel

DESERT FOOD

Before doing a handscapes we practiced perspectives which helped us put things in proportion. Then we practiced drawing parts of nature and our hands in different positions.

HANDSCAPE

I had numerous ideas for this project but I wasn’t sure how to get it on paper. Consequently I chose the easiest thing, two open hands and an island. While I was finishing I realized that I had a lot of space at the top of my drawing which made it look plain. So I added the word “LOVE”, which in my opinion made it look worse. Medium: Graphite

TROUBLE IN PARADISE

The Eye Fear took a while to accomplish because we used pen and had to try to add values without messing up our art. Along with adding value a personal fear had to be added. Before choosing a fear we practiced drawing eyes and had to take pictures to draw an eye from observation. Medium: Pen. While working on our BAP the medium required us to use water which made the process challenging but the color blended well and allowed me to give it details that made the art diverse. Medium: Water, Color pastels

EYE FEAR & BAP

Eyes were hard to draw for me because we used pen and its hard for me to feel confident without erasing. I was the most confident about my fear because I think I portrayed a monster/nightmare well. The most abject trait I wanted to show was hair; so first I drew a body with a hairy chest. However, it took focus from the face so I took the body away and kept a hairy face.

NIGHTMARE & POOR HARRY

To start us off we learned how to doodle and noodle. Then we put it in our work. We “scribbled” and added techniques to the lines se we could have some form. Medium: Sharpies and Oil Pastels

ABSTRACTION

Page 12: Art Projects and Processes of Semester 1!

I hated the way my abstract drawings started out so I tried several times to create a “pretty” drawing. I finally realized that my drawing wouldn’t be good until I added detail. After going over the pencil with Sharpie we had to choose a small portion to put on a larger paper.
