Acoustics must be adapted through appropriate measures like ceiling shapes or acoustic.

Acoustical treatment and light control: The proscenium height, the ramp height, the pitch of the stalls and the volume of the room , this gives the total room height . The lighting control and arrangement depends on this height . The celling is to be adapted for acoustic requirements. The noise reflected from the stage and apron should be distributed evenly over the room.

Rows of spectators should be positioned in arch, not only for better alignment towards the stage, but also to achieve a better perception of each other .The center of curvature is located on the depth of the house behind the proscenium. The vertical angel of 30@ at the spectator's position establishes the distance from the closest seat to the scree or the highest significant object on the stage.

The vertical angle of 30’ at the spectator’s position establishes the distance from the closets seat to the screen or to the highest significant object on the stage.

It affords the maximum confrontation of performers and audience and is best for lecturers, concert singers, recitation and dramatic presentation. It establishes a limited orientation of performers to audience.

It is the best arrangment for presenting to an audience a dramatic action of conflict or opposition or conflict is across the line of vision of the audience and hence is maximally perfectible.

It places more spectators closer to the performance then does the proscenium arrangement and in this way contributes to good seeing, but it places a burden of diffused orientation upon directors and performers and makes impossible the achievement to total uniform effect.

As well as seating maximum audience in the minimum enclosure, this arrangement seats the largest audience within the shortest distance form the acting area. It is therefore attractive to the showman and also to the spectators who attaches value to proximity to the stages.

AMPHITHEATERAn amphitheaters or amphitheater is an open-air venue used for entertainment, performances, and sports. Ancient Greek theaters were built in a semicircle, with tiered seating above a performance area contemporary amphitheater, in the sense in which the word has come to be popularly used now, is a curved, acoustically vibrant performance space, particularly one located outdoors.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

The Wolfe Center has a unique program that unites a diverse range of art studies into a socially enterprising facility meant to encourage lively interaction among students and faculty. Plans for the building include three performance spaces: a proscenium theater that will provide space for large-scale productions of musical theater, opera, and classical drama; a studio theater for the presentation of more diverse artistic programs, including theater for young audiences and productions of new plays, and an actor’s theater to provide space for experimental productions integrating the spoken word and body movement with digital and sound technology.Snøhetta has created a grand open hall that greets the visitor from the main entrance. Sunlit and spacious, the lobby provides views upward to the lounges, classrooms and studios of the art, music, and drama departments on the second level.

Situated at the heart of the building, the proscenium theater seats 400 and can be used for a variety of performance programs.

PROGRAMS:

Page 16: Art and drama

The result of an international design

competition in 2007, Chengdu Contemporary Art Centre will be a new cultural destination for

Sichuan Province and will provide Chengdu with an

unprecedented collection of world-class

arts, performance, leisure, and congress

venues.

CCAC will be a regional art and music centre of international standing. CCAC accommodates three auditoria, an art museum, an exhibition centre, a conference

centre, a learning centre, bars,

restaurants and shops. The largest of the three halls, a multifunctional theatre, seats up to

2,000 people.

Page 17: Art and drama

The second hall caters for lyrical theatre and music events, with a

seating arrangement of up to 870 people. The third auditorium will be used as a music hall. Designed for natural acoustic, this hall will provide space for an

audience of up to 1,000.

The conference centre comprises 8,000m2,

which can be separated into 16 equal and

independent accessible conference rooms. A flexible 10,000m2 exhibition centre is located at the main

entrance level.

Page 18: Art and drama

The art museum comprises approximately

15,000m2 net exhibition area which is located below the roof and will take advantage of natural lit exhibition

spaces. Our design aims to resolve the

complexities of the programme, while

combining spatial clarity with the design of a unique and iconic

structure.

Page 19: Art and drama

The undulating building geometry suggests a

rolling landscape, inspired by the

topography of Sichuan Province. CCAC’s

elongated design will contrast the vertical

tower structures surrounding the site. Its

soaring aerodynamic shape and Yin Yang like shape evokes traditional

Chinese symbols.
