Color ADDITIVE COLORS: These colors are created by the emission of light; the

additive primary colors are red, green and blue light, and these can be mixed to create lights of other colors. (p. 86)

SUBTRACTIVE COLORS: These colors are created from pigments; the subtractive primary colors are red, yellow and blue pigments. (p. 86)

WARM COLORS: Colors on the yellow-red side of the color wheel that produce visual sensations suggestive of warmth, comfort, and energy as produced by the warmth of the sun. Warm colors seem to advance toward the viewer. (p. 87)

COOLER COLORS: Colors on the blue-green side of the color wheel that produce visual sensations suggestive of coolness, such as that of water. Cool colors seem to recede from the viewer. (p. 87)

Color HUE: The name of a color. (p.88)

VALUE: The lightness or darkness of a color. (p.88)

INTENSITY: Brightness of a color. Pure colors, such as unmixed pigments, are most intense. (p.88)

TINT: A high value of a color, created by mixing that color with white. (p.89)

SATURATION: The degree of purity of hue, as measured by its intensity or brightness. (p.91)

Color NEUTRAL COLOR: Colors mixed with gray and sometimes, also weakened

in intensity. (p.91)

COMPLIMENTARY COLORS: Colors that sit across from one another on a color wheel and contrast most extremely. (p.92)

MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEME: A manner of using color in which one (mono) color (chroma) dominates and is sometimes combined with its various tints and shades. (p.102)
