Arskala Principle was founded by ceramic-based artist Endang Lestari and art curator Sujud Dartanto in 2014. It is located in Sleman, in the eastern part of Yogjakarta, Central Java and close to historical temples such as Prambanan, Kalasan, Plaosan, and Ratu Boko. Arskala Principle is interested in funding projects that have socio-cultural and historical context both local and international. Its activities include artworks creation, workshops, research, collaborative exchange, and residency.

The studio is surrounded by villagers’ farms where you can enjoy the green and yellow paddy fields [the paths and scenery are good for cycling around]. It is very cozy to work day and night, as the studio has an open air system, so it is breezy during the day and cool at night. The average daily temperature is (21 – 31)0 C / (69 – 88)0 F. There are several modes of public transportation available, but it is suggested to rent a motorcycle or car for greater flexibility, especially if the artist would like to have a lot of activities outside the studio. Artist may try local foods served in warongs (traditional food stalls), restaurants, and cafes nearby.

The people are friendly and they are familiar with foreigners, as the location is close to many tourist spots. Their daily language is Javanese and Indonesian. Locals know a bit of English, but tourist spots usually have good English Speaking guides. An assistant will also assist the artist during their stay.
