18:00 UTC Sunday 4 September until
03:00 UTC Monday 5 September
Would you like to work more TN counties, or contact more states to finish
your WAS award? Maybe you need to increase your DX count. Get on the
air for the TN QSO Party, have some fun, make some contacts, and sharpen
your contesting skills!
About the TN QSO Party:
“The Tennessee QSO Party is an annual amateur radio event which takes
place on either the first or second Sunday of September. All amateur radio
operators in the great state of Tennessee are encouraged to participate as
antennas around the world rotate and point to the volunteer state.
The Tennessee QSO Party is hosted by the Tennessee Contest
Group. Each year tens of thousands of QSOs occur between Tennessee
amateur radio operators and hams worldwide. “* Plaques are awarded for
category winners. (* from the TN QSO Party website:

ARRL TN Section Public Information Newsletter August 2016
Welcome to the ARRL TN Section Public Information Team!!!
CONGRATULATIONS and WELCOME to Lenard Grice KM4MRY, our newly appointed
ARRL TN Section Public Information Officer. (KM4MRY photo courtesy of R. Pinelli, KA2BSM)
Len brings a wealth of experience with him for his new role, as Retired healthcare execu-
tive with more than 30 years in the marketing, public relations and public information
world. He currently serves as the Delta Amateur Radio Club PIO. In addition to the Club
activities, he did a fantastic job of helping to publicize ARRL Field Day in the Mid South Area of TN. This
event featured 7 Amateur Radio Clubs and emergency services organizations working together. Len joins
the existing Public Information team in supporting our Amateur Radio communications needs across the
ARRL TN Section. Welcome to your new role on the ARRL TN Section Public Information Team!!!
We would also like to recognize and thank the many Club PIOs who work hard to support the amateur radio
community at a local level. It is because of your efforts that the number of licensed Amateur Radio operators
continues to grow in Tennessee!

McMinn ARC HamFest July 16
The 12th Annual MCARC Hamfest, Sponsored by The McMinn Co Amateur Radio Club was a lively, fun
place to be on a hot summer Saturday morning. There were plenty of vendors in shaded pavilion, with
great company, plenty of food, and a steady stream of door prizes to match the tickets for the drawings.
VE sessions were offered periodically for those wishing to get licensed, or to upgrade to a
new license class. Featured vendors included The Wireman, JMR Sales and TR07 Engineering. The TN
State Guard provided great information, and an extra level of protection for the cache of door prizes
that were give throughout the event. Great fun– good people, great prizes!
Many thanks to Debbie Bare, KE4OTV, President McMinn County ARC and Phil Prichard KC4JIY,
Hamfest Coordinator, for your warm welcome and hospitality to the ARRL team! Pictures are from Bob
Miller, KC4KUZ MCARC Trustee / Public Relations and the McMinn County Facebook page:

The Greater Nashville and Middle TN Ham Quest July 30
The Greater Nashville & Middle TN HamQuest was a new project dedicated to
combining traditional Hamfest elements with less traditional offerings that
helped to unite the Ham community. Thanks to the leadership and hard work
of HamQuest 2016 Chairman Bill Uthoff, KK4WU, this event was THE place
to be on July 30. The Quest was sponsored by the Wilson Amateur Radio
Club, with assistance from the Wilson Radio League. Located at the Wilson
County Fairgrounds, the pavilion was filled with representatives from the par-
ticipating clubs who worked hard to have a great event for the many vendors
who filled the tables, and about 400 attendees who passed through the gate to
visit the HamQuest. Featured activities included a talk-in station, a Radio Check Station, ARRL, ARES and
NWS Skywarn tables, a VE Session, and a mesh network information session, to name a few of the high-
lights of the HamQuest. And of course, food - an All-You-Can-Eat breakfast (for a nominal charge). Many
thanks to Bob Strausburg KK4HQ Image Creations Photography for sharing his great pictures with us!
