Gold Award Mentors Needed

Would you like to help a girl earn the highest award in Girl Scouting? We are looking for volunteers to become Gold

Award Mentors for our Senior and Ambassador girls. When girls decide to earn their Gold Award, they are on their honor

to uphold the Standards of Excellence. Following the Standards of Excellence challenges girls to develop themselves as

leaders, achieve the Girl Scout Leadership Outcomes and

make a mark on their communities that creates a lasting impact

on the lives of others. As a mentor, you will guide girls through

the process of earning the Gold Award. You will review and

approve proposals, offer advice and help resolve issues that

arise, and act as an advisor to the girl on behalf of the council.

We need enthusiastic advocates of the Gold Award and the

GSUSA Higher awards to help us grow the Gold Award.

April Webinar Wednesday: Spotlight on Religious Awards Each month we offer a 1 hour live webinar devoted to topics to enrich and enhance your volunteer experience. And don’t worry if you can’t make it, the webinars are always recorded and placed in our On-Demand Library! While Girl Scouts is a secular organization, Girl Scouts has always encouraged girls to take spiritual journeys via their faiths’ religious recognitions. Did you know that there are two categories of religious awards that girls can earn? There is a GSUSA award called “My Promise, My Faith” and it can be earned by girls at all levels every year. There are also religious recognitions specific to individual religious organizations. We’ll review the types of awards available, discuss how to incorporate into your troop programming, and help you identify resources to support your girls on their spiritual journeys. Anyone who pre-registers AND attends the webinar is entered to win a $20 GSWNY gift certificate! Date: Wednesday, April 27 Time: 6:30 pm To register: You must pre-register for this webinar.

Core Camp (look for Core camp programs in the 2016 camp catalog)

Troop leaders if you are looking for a great troop camp experience to do with your girls don’t forget about Core camping at Camp Timbercrest! As we all know troop camping is a great way for leaders and their girls to experience the won-ders and excitement of the outdoors. At GSWNY we want to provide as many opportunities as possible for leaders and girls to experience the great outdoors. Core camp can provide that experience. Need a camp catalog – download

your copy at http://www.gswny.org/registration or call our office at 1 888 937 6410 to request a catalog.

Core Camp is the perfect setting for leaders who want to take their girls troop camping without the responsibility of providing program, meals or having trained/certified adults. At Camp Timbercrest we will do it all for you. All troop leaders have to do is provide the necessary child to adult supervision ratio. You and your girls can participate in as much or as little programming as you choose. Look for dates and programs themes coming soon in the 2016 camp catalog. Here is what our leaders had to say about their first time core camping experience. “My girls loved it and can't wait to go back”, “I thought it was amazing, much better than the over the weekend troop camping you use to offer.” “It's great for all and a super great chance for the girls to see what camp is like”, “We had a won-derful time! I'd go again in a heartbeat. My girls loved it and loved the counselors who made everything so much fun.”
