What’s Happening in Level 1?

In Level 1 this week we are very excited about our final narrative piece titled, ‘The Mad Scientist’. The students are forming their ideas, figuring out a complication and resolution for their stories. It will be very exciting to place their work on display in a couple of weeks and we would encourage parents to come and look at the writing that the students have produced. This week our letter of the week is ‘Jj’ and next week it is ‘Oo’. Our extension spelling focus is, ‘oo’, as in look and next week it is ‘oo’ as in food. Within maths we are continuing our work on addition, where we are modelling addition and working on using a range of addition strategies including counting on, partitioning and rearranging parts. Next week in maths we are having our first look at location and direction. We will be brainstorming words that we use to describe location and direction and following instructions to place objects or direct someone to a location.

Education Week Next week is Education Week in Victoria and here at Antonio Park we love welcoming our community into our classrooms as much as possible. This year the theme is ‘Crack The Code’ and we have lots of fun events planned for the entire week here at APPS. We hope you are able to join us next Tuesday for our Open day and Open night! Please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information. A big thank you to Sophie Panou and the Education Week team for their excellent organisation of this special week. Classroom Helpers On Wednesday 27th May from 9am-10.30am Tim will run a session which will combine all three of the classroom helpers sessions from Term 1. This condensed version will be held in the library. Please come along if you are interested in this session, which will cover being a classroom helper, along with helping specifically with reading and writing in our classrooms. No need to RSVP to this session. NAPLAN Thanks to Bonnie Ratten & Rachel MacGilp for their coordination of NAPLAN this week for the years 3 and 5 students. The students complet-ed the final test today and these will now be sent away to be marked and results will be returned back to the school later this year.

Instrumental lessons As mentioned two weeks ago, there is an opportunity for us to expand to offer trumpet or woodwind lessons through Junior Rockers, if there is enough interest. If your child is interested, please let me know by Friday 22nd May at the latest and I can contact Junior Rockers so we can get the music started. New Newsletter Article We’d like to introduce a new article to our weekly newsletter. It is called “Kate’s Weekly Wellness Tips” and it is written by one of our parents Kate Martin. Kate is a qualified Personal Trainer and Wholistic Health Coach and is certified to give nutritional advice. She has kindly volunteered to contribute nutrition or fitness information to our newsletter on a regular basis. The first article appears below. Enjoy and thankyou Kate!! Have a great weekend! Tim and Annette Have a wonderful week ahead.

Next week it is Education Week! In Art this week, Janet has been working with the Level 1 students to create a display for the front gate of the school, which all grades will have on display from Monday morning to mark the start of Education Week. This year the theme for Education Week is ‘Crack the Code’, so throughout the week the students will have daily codes to crack and on Thursday afternoon all students within the school will engage in a multi-age activity. On Tuesday, May 19th it is Open Day and Open Night. During the day everyone from our community is welcome to come and have a look in the classrooms and watch the students at work. On Tuesday night the classrooms are open from 6pm to 7pm and then there are performances in the hall from 7pm to 7.30pm. We look forward to seeing you and your families on Tuesday! Level 1 Team Elizabeth, Stacey, Lauren and Sophie

Kate’s Weekly Wellness Tips "Empowering Mums to Feel Amazing" Today is about empowering you gorgeous mummas! Let’s talk food and putting yourself first. What you might not know is that by controlling your blood sugar levels first thing in the morning you literally set yourself up to

feel much more amazing (mentally clearer, less angry, more energy) and you will get healthier as a result. To do this I suggest including some form of protein in your breakfast. Eg. eggs/meat/yogurt. If you don't have time to cook breakfast in the morning, either make it the night before, or even better eat a bit of left over dinner (just make sure there is some). Or whip up a green smoothie for a huge vitamin hit, eg. 1/2 avocado, 1 cup spinach, some berries, 1/2 banana, 1tbsp vanilla yogurt and use water in-

stead of milk.

Give it a try, you will feel the results immediately, your mood will improve and your cravings will subside. Some of my favourite sites for family meal planning and kids lunch box ideas are; www.planningwithkids.com and www.iquitsugar.com

Yours in health and feeling amazing,

Kate Martin

What’s Happening in Level 2?

What’s Happening in Level 3?

We are all looking forward to Education Week with open day and night a highlight. Drop in and have a visit, see us at work…. Presently the students in level two are writing a narrative, learning all about multiplication and participating in weekly rotations where they visit another level two classroom to learn all about marine creatures. Activities you could do at home this week may include: Having a look around at home to see if you can identify some arrays? Looking up some information about your favourite sea creature. Reading a narrative and having a family chat about the characters in each story.

Level 2 would also like to thank Miss French and Mr Mac for all their work and organisation to make the Cross Country a wonderful success. We cer-tainly appreciate your efforts. Have a fabulous week… The Level 2 Team.

Well done to our grade three students for completing their NAPLAN tests this week. You all put in one hundred percent effort and we’re all very proud of you! Camp is fast approaching so make sure you’re going over your packing list and bring any of your questions to our camp information night on Monday the 25th of May. To celebrate Education Week, we’re having an open day and night next Tuesday. You’re more than welcome to visit the classroom during the day and see what a day in your child’s life is like at school. We also look forward to seeing you from 6.00pm-7.00pm in our classrooms. Congratulations to all of the level three students who participated in the Cross Country last Thursday. Not only did you try your best during the race, we also loved seeing the enthusiasm, encouragement and support your gave your peers. We have a lovely, caring bunch of students in level three! We wish all of the students going to District Cross Country the best of luck! The Level 3 team.

Sick Bay Clothing

Now that the cold and wet weather has arrived, we are asking for donations of pants,

and socks for the sick bay.

If your child has been changed into items from the sick bay, we ask that you please wash and return them to the office.

Thank you

Notice to Parents

Recently it was brought to our attention that students and parents from APPS are using the laneway from Cook Rd to Whitehorse Rd to access the school. This laneway is very busy with commercial traffic and we strongly discourage our community from using this

shortcut as it is potentially very dangerous, particularly to students walking or on scooters. Thank you.

Social networking describes a variety of services like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, World of Warcraft, Moshi Monsters, Twitter, Skype, Snapchat, Mine-craft and many others All of these services enable direct interaction between individuals. Users can post information about themselves, display photos, tell people what they’ve been up to, chat and play games. Social networking forms a part of the social identity of many teenagers. What can I do? As a parent, you can help your child have positive experiences on social networking sites

Stay involved in your child’s use of new technology. Set up your own account and learn about privacy settings so you can understand how you can best protect your child. It can be fun for you too!

Check the age restrictions for the social networking service or game. Some social networking sites (such as Club Penguin) are created especially for children under the age of 13, but most mainstream sites like Facebook, Instagram and others require the user to be 13 or older.

Advise children to set their accounts to private so that only people they want to see it can view their information.

Encourage children to think before they put anything online. Information posted online can be difficult or impossible to remove. An inappropriate image posted today can have a long term impact on their digital reputation.

Show them how to set up location services on their phone so they are not inadvertently broadcasting their location.

Remind children to be careful when making new friends online; people may not be who they say they are. Never arrange to meet an online friend unless a trusted adult is with you.

Report any abuse or inappropriate content to the social networking site and show children how to do this too.

Learn how to keep a copy of online conversations and how to block people prior to an issue occurring. For more information on managing your children’s access to particular social networking sites, visit cybersmart.gov.au/parents.aspx

What's on this week: Craft: This week we have been getting creative with natural materials. We will be making pet rocks and other critters using twigs, leaves and shells. We have also been painting and making jewellery. Cooking: For afternoon teas this week we will be making chocolate and vanilla cake, a coconut and chocolate slice. We will also be serving nachos, popcorn and pancakes for breakfast. Inside: We always have plenty of games to play, chess and mastermind have been popular. As the days are getting darker and colder a lot sooner we have also been putting on a movie for the children to wind down. All films are G rated. Outdoors: This week with the wet weather we have been using the deck and hall when possible. When we have been able to go outside we have been going to the oval to play football and soccer. Just a few things we would also like to pass on to parents and children. Football Cards: With football cards becoming popular again we have had a few occasions where trading cards has caused a few issues. To avoid this we have stopped all trading at before and after school care. We are happy for children to bring them in and look through and play with them, but no trading is to occur. This has been discussed during before and after school care and we would like parents to please help us and remind your children as well. If you have any questions please come and speak to the coordinator. Cold Weather: As it is getting very cold we ask everyone to bring jumpers, as children will not be allowed to go outside if they do not have a jumper. And please have your child’s name on it just in case it gets separated, we can then get it back to you.

If you have any inquiries or questions please call us on 0412 545 042, alternatively you can call customer service on 1300 105 343 or visit our website at www.campaustralia.com.au

Education Week

Education Week is coming up (18th-22nd May) and we are all very excited about it! The

theme for this year’s Education Week is ‘Crack the Code’. We have many great

activities planned for the week that students will take part in. You will notice a lot of colour out the front of

the school on Monday the 18th May as each student will be decorating a magnifying glass with their portrait

and their name in a code. These will be hung along the front of the school fence for the week.

Open Day 19th May 9-3.30

Open Day is on Tuesday the 19th May and this is a fantastic opportunity for family and friends to come and

visit their child’s classes. You may like to go to their classroom to watch a lesson or you can even go to a

specialist activity. Please see your child’s classroom time table so you know when their specialist activities

are.

Open Night 19th May 6.00-7.30

Open night is on Tuesday from 6.00-7.30pm. From 6.00-7.00pm your child’s classroom will be open for you to

come and visit. Your child can show you all the fantastic work they have done this year and you can look at all

our wonderful classroom displays. There will be maths games and activities for you to complete with your

child and there might even be a few codes to crack! From 7.00-7.30pm there will be a school performance in

the hall.

Daily Code- running throughout the week

Every day there will be a new code for classes to complete. Classes need to complete the code as fast as

they can and there will be a prize for the fastest junior and senior class each day.

Whole school activity 21st May

We will be having a whole school activity on Thursday afternoon in the last session. Students will be placed

into multi-age groups. Teachers will read a book to students, with a ‘cracking the code’ focus. This will be

followed by an activity. Students love taking part in multi-aged activities as it gives them an opportunity to

meet other students and teachers from across the school.

School tours 19th and 21st May 9.30-11am

School tours are available on these dates. Our Junior School Councillors will be assisting with these.
