ARMIDALE CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL 30 July 2014
Dear Parents,
KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2015
We are seeking information on our numbers for next year and would like to know of any parents wishing to
enrol children at Armidale City Public School in 2015.
We believe that Armidale City Public School offers an excellent beginning to school life. The school has
dedicated and hard working staff members with both vitality and experience. Parents and children are
welcomed into a caring school environment where each child is encouraged to strive for their personal best.
Parents are welcome to visit our school and to make an appointment with the Principal, Mr Matt Hobbs, on
6772 3420 to discuss any issue.
Children who turn five before 31 July 2015 are eligible to enrol in Kindergarten in 2015. This may mean that
some children will only be four years and six months of age when they begin school.
If there are any young children living near you who have no older brothers or sisters at this school, please
include them on your list.
We need this information urgently to assist us with staffing for next year. Parents must complete an
“Application to Enrol” form which may be obtained from the Front Office at the School or by completing the
form below and returning it to the school. Once we have received the “Application to Enrol” form with your
child’s Birth Certificate and Immunisation Certificate, we can then confirm your child’s place in Kindergarten
2015.
We will be holding orientation days for Kindergarten 2015 for students and parents early in Term 4. At this
time, more information about our school will be available while the children will have the opportunity to spend
some time in the Kindergarten classrooms.
Thank you for your assistance.
Mr Matt Hobbs
Principal

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT—WEEK 3 The focus for public schools in NSW throughout this week
is Education Week. On Monday we had open classrooms,
morning tea and assembly with a theme of ‘Careers’.
Students presented items based around careers of the past
and careers of the future tying in with the Education Week
theme of 60 years of education – ‘Lighting The Way To A
Better World’. We had over 180 parents and family
members attend our open day and it was wonderful to see
visitors in our school. Thank you, to staff and students for
welcoming our visitors and displaying the wonderful work we
do at Armidale City Public School. Well done, to our
Education Week award recipients – thank you, for your
ongoing support of ACPS. Congratulations, also, to Lea
McMillan, Peg Hewitt, Ely Sisson and Laurie Pulley who
received Armidale Community of Schools Education Week
awards and thank you, to our ACOS Orchestra members
who performed at the awards ceremony. Thanks must also
go to Armidale High School for hosting the ACOS Awards
Ceremony.
Well done, to our school gymnastics team who competed at
the North West Gymnastics Competition on Monday. Your
efforts and results are to be commended.
Next week we have our School Council meeting for Term 2
on Monday night and P&C meeting for August on Wednesday
night. We have received two parent nominations for the
vacant position on our School Council. A voting form went
home with the Blue and White last week. Parents are asked
to vote for their preferred candidate and return forms to
the ballot box which is located at the front office by 4pm,
Friday, 1 August. Next week, also on Wednesday, will be ‘A
Little Night Music’ from 5.30pm in the school hall and it
promises to be another wonderful event.
School planning has commenced for 2015 and a key
component of this planning is collaboration and consultation
with our community - in particular our parent body, to
create a shared vision for ACPS. If you would like to
contribute to the strategic directions for our school in the
time period 2015 – 2017, please contact me via email or
come along to our next P&C meeting to be part of the
discussion around our school direction and vision. From
2015, school planning and reporting in NSW DEC schools will
be underpinned by the School Excellence Framework, which
will provide a clear description of effective school practice
across the three key elements of education – Learning,
Teaching and Leading. Three key strategic directions will
form the basis of the upcoming three year planning
cycle. Each strategic direction will articulate the school’s
approach and identify the key improvement measures using
the new 5P methodology – Purpose, People, Processes,
Practices and Products. The product will be an individual
school plan, contextually driven to support the achievement
of the key improvement measures to address the needs of
students at the local level.
I would like to reinforce with all community members the
protocols of using the internet and social media sites and
thank all our students, community and staff that do abide
by these protocols. I also thank parents who support our
school in making the use of the internet an enjoyable one
for your children by ensuring you know what they are
accessing at all times.
This Friday I am going to Quirindi High School to meet with
Principals of schools in Finland and discuss what makes their
schools amongst the top performing schools in the world. I
am looking forward to bringing their ideas back to Armidale
City Public School and discussing them further with our
staff and community so we can continue working together on
providing a wide range of educational opportunities and
excellence for our students.
Please feel free to email me on the address below if you
wish to raise any points of interest, the term is well
underway and we already have much to celebrate.

FEELING DEADLY NOT
SHAME Last Wednesday the children in
Stage 2 all participated in a large
group activity called ‘Feeling
Deadly Not Shame’. Deadly in
this context means good,
awesome, proud and strong etc. The program is explicitly
taught to the children and helps to raise self-esteem in
children and give them a positive mindset on how they can be
a deadly person and help others feel deadly as well. The
program gets children thinking about and recognising the
factors that make them a strong and deadly person. As a
result the children were
about to think many ways
that they are a deadly
person in our school
community and the places
and people who help them
stay that way.
It was awesome fun!
Thanks to Mr Widders and
the Stage 2 teachers.
