2Evaluation of Standards Harmonization Process for HIT

The Standards Harmonization initiative is just one element of interoperability

The Community serves as the hub for identifying breakthrough opportunities

CCHIT will focus on developing a mechanism for certification of health care IT products

HITSP will bring together all relevant stakeholders to identify appropriate IT standards

HISPC is a partnership focused on addressing variations in business policy and state law that affect privacy and security

NHIN is focused on interoperability pilots

4Evaluation of Standards Harmonization Process for HIT

The team supports the HITSP Process - an open, inclusive, and collaborative process

The Community selects breakthrough areas to be worked across ONC contracts

The HITSP then charters Use Case Committees to address each breakthrough

Use Case Committees develop the final Use Cases, identify standards needed, identify gaps and overlap, test the interoperability standard, publish implementation guides– Facilitated by the Standards Implementation leader, Joyce Sensmeier of HIMSS

Use Case Committees inform the HITSP of gaps and overlaps that require harmonization

The HITSP inclusively and collaboratively resolves the gaps and overlaps– Facilitated by the Standards Coordination leader, Michelle Deane of ANSI

The HITSP also charters committees to define the self sustaining business plan and the change management process– Also facilitated by Michelle Deane of ANSI
