Arlington Patriots Monthly Volume 3: Issue 1 September 2019 Dear School Family It has been a great start to the school year! We have spent the month of August learning and practicing the school and classroom expectations and procedures. We have also practiced all of our school safety drills! To add to the excitement, a power outage resulted in a field trip to the High School! If you have been to our school this year you will see that we continue to grow! This is the first time in Arlington Elementary's history that we've had 5 kindergarten classrooms. Even though some classrooms were freed up due to the REACH program moving to South Creek, our growth has resulted in every classroom occupied by a teacher! With this in mind, we are always looking for volunteers to come in and read with students and support education in motion. If you would like to volunteer, please contact your child's teacher! We would love to have you! Thank you for your continued support! • Parent Information and More... Head Lice 101

September is head lice awareness month! Head lice are small insects that live on the scalp of a human. All groups of people can get head lice, and it is not a sign of uncleanliness. Lice eggs are called nits, and unlike dandruff, they are firmly attached to the hair shaft. Lice can only crawl therefore are spread by direct head-to-head contact. You can buy treatment shampoos over the counter at convenience stores or contact your doctor for prescription shampoo. You should also wash all bedding, clothing, and towels used in hot water and hot air cycles. Classroom-wide or school-wide screening is not merited. Lice transmission in school is LOW, due to close head-to-head contact which is low and generally does not happen in the school setting. Children with an active head lice infestation are likely to have had the infestation for at least a month by the time it is discovered. It is Franklin Township's policy that a student with head lice can return to school when there are no live bugs and the nits at least 1/2 inch away from the scalp.

Mobile DentistMobile dentist will be here Wednesday, September 4th. If you have questions or still need a form call Mrs. Eck.

Vision ScreeningsThe Marion County Health Department will be at Arlington on September 30th to do vision screenings. They will only be screening 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade. Please make sure your student wears their glasses that day. If you do not want your student to get a vision screening please let the nurse know.

Car Rider ReminderSchool begins at 8:50 everyday. If you are dropping your child off after 8:50, you MUST enter with your child to sign them in. Failure to do this after the teacher takes attendance could possibly result in an overlooked absence. ONLY children who eat breakfast are admitted in at 8:35. Car Riders will begin entering the building at 8:35. Bus riders who do not eat breakfast enter the building at 8:40. Please DO NOT drop off your children earlier than the allowed times. It is not safe to leave your child in the lobby unattended. If you need before or after child care, please contact the Baxter YMCA.

  • What’s going on at Arlington? Learning About BullyingWritten by Adisun M

Bullying is an action which makes kids feel powerless. There are many types of bullying such as cyber bullying, verbal bullying, psychical bullying, and relational bullying. If you are being bullied, no matter the type, please tell an adult. Bullying is not okay. Please do keep in mind that bullying is more than just being rude or making fun of one another. Bullying is a repetitive action, which means it happens more than once and you are usually targeted. Stay safe and happy!
