General Information

The Sale will commence at 12 noon

METHOD OF SALE All sheep will be sold in guineas (105pence) and strictly in catalogue order. All sheep to be sold singly.

CONDITIONS OF SALE The sale is held under the auspices of the British Charollais Sheep Society and all sheep will be sold subject to the Rules and Condi-tions of the Society and to the Auctioneer’s General Conditions of sale, which areavailable in the Auctioneer’s office. The Society’s Conditions are available at thesale or upon demand from the Society’s office.

HEALTH The sheep are from a Maedi Visna Accredited flock registered with theSAC Sheep & Goat Health Scheme and are Scrapie Monitored for export. All sheepwere vaccinated for Blue Tongue by a veterinary surgeon on 16th June making themeligible for export.

INSPECTION All sheep will have been subject to an inspection by an official SocietyInspector and faults found will be declared by the Auctioneer at the time of sale.

BIO-SECURITY Current DEFRA regulations are to be observed.

SCANNING INFORMATION All ewes will be scanned with results detailed in thecatalogue or available on the day of the sale. This in no way guarantees the number of lambs at birth.

IN LAMB EWES SOLD UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE SOCIETY

If any female sheep which is described in the catalogue or at the time of sale as being“scanned in lamb” or in lamb proves not to have been in lamb at the time of sale andwithin 7 days after the day of sale the Purchaser gives written notice to the auctioneersof his intention to return the animal supported by a veterinary surgeon’s certificate thatsuch sheep has proved not to have been in lamb then the purchaser may return suchsheep to the vendor. The vendor may elect to sell the sheep as “running with ram”where no guarantee is implied or in the cast of ewe lambs as empty.

SCRAPIE GENOTYPE If no individual genotype result is declared but the vendor hasdeclared the genotype of the sire and dam, this in no way guarantees the genotype of

After 20 years of selectivebreeding I have decided todisperse the Arjane flock.Rapidly approaching 50 Ihave decided to take sometime out to do some travel-ling next year. My intentionis to return at some pointand to this end I have frozen26 embryos from four of mybest breeding ewes.

My feelings on this dispersalare mixed with an element ofsadness but also pride thatthe females on offer are certainly peaking at the righttime with some wonderfulfamilies in the flock. ALLFEMALES from my favouritesenior eight year old ewedown to my ewe lambs are included without exception.

In my first sale preface in 1997 I stated that the Arjane flock was established withthe purchase of foundation females selected rigorously for correctness of conformation and depth of quality from proven blood lines. I feel that this policyhas been vindicated with superb families featuring sires like Dominator, Flagship andIbanez who have become household names.

In the early days my first stock sire was KS 0057, Netherallan Jock who served uswell in the show ring as well as providing females with good length and power as theflock expanded. To follow on the good work of Jock we had two influential tups inLoganbar Logie (ZVW 4004) and Findatie Mac (FT 5005) who gained recognition insiring the renowned Arjane Master Mac who has been used extensively.

The major influence on my flock has undoubtedly been the purchase of

Galtres Dominator, ZKT 3025, who has produced many high priced tups but also superb females that are prevalent in the flock. In my opinion he is arguably one of the best sires in the breed and a hard act to follow.

Southam Flagship served us well after winning the Male Championship at the RoyalWelsh Show in 2006 and worked well with Cargriff Golden Eye on Dominator ewes.Arjane Hardy ZRF 7024, a son of Flagship, did us proud in winning Champion Ramlamb at Worcester Premier in 2007.

In Welshpool Premier Sale in 2008 a tup called Penrhos Ibanez caught my eye andtwo years later he has excelled producing the Champion Arjane Kukri at the Worcester Premier Sale in 2009, the top price ram lamb Arjane Kavanagh at7,200gns and also, significantly following in Dominators footsteps, in winning thePenywern Perpetual Trophy for the best Progeny Group.

I have always argued that although showing gives us a shop window, I still regardthe sale ring and commercial buyers to be the endorsement of our breeding policy.The main NSA Ram Sale at Builth is always a highlight and I can still remember, inour early days, the excitement when ZRF 3008, a son of Jock, was Reserve Champion at Builth II in 1993 and since then we have been fortunate to win theSupreme Championship on 4 occasions in 1995, 2000, 2002 and, more recently,with a Dominator son ZRF 6009 in 2006.

Over the years the Arjane Flock has featured consistently in the show ring, winningmany Championships but the highlight has to be winning the Interbreed Group ofThree at the Royal Welsh Show in 2006 and 2007 with all home bred animals.

This sale offers a choice of many potential show sheep and good, hard workingbreeding ewes from proven sires which should appeal to pedigree breeders and newcomers alike.

LOGANBAR LOGIE - ZVW 4004 (1994)A big, superbly fleshed son of Netherallan Majestic King. His first crop of lambsproved outstanding in 1996, producing the 1st prize Ram and Ewe Lamb at theRoyal Welsh, and the Supreme Champion at Builth Wells II Sale, who went on to doso well for Tony & June Gregory. The appeal of his progeny was borne out by theaverage of 420gns for 19 ram lambs, to peak at 950gns at Builth II in 1996. In1997 he built on this success with 3 ram lambs by Logie winning the Best Group ofThree at the Royal Welsh, ZRF 7004 was Champion at the early Builth NSA Sale,whilst ZRF 7029 was sold for 1,000gns at the main Builth NSA sale. Logie’s success continued in 1998 with ZRF 8078 being Res. Champion at Builth Wells II.

FINDATIE MAC - FT 5055He was a son of Crogham Cannonand out of the renowned Queen ofthe ring (FT 4001) female line atFindatie, and was purchased jointlyfor 2,700gns. His full brother waschampion at Lanark in 1996. Following heavy usage and withdaughters coming through, the decision was made to sell Mac andhe was placed Res. Champion atthe Lichfield Premier Sale as a 4year old and subsequently sold for2,200gns. A son of Mac, ZRF8034, sold for the joint top price of1,200gns at Builth Wells NSA Sale to Robert Gregory and Dave Reynolds.Possibly Mac’s greatest legacy was siring ARJANE MASTER MAC that went on to bestock tup at the Rutland, Dalby and Rockvilla flocks - a legend in the breed.

FOULRICE RIVAL - DG 6177A high index son of Cairnhill Crusader. He was acquired from the Foulrice flock in1997. The prediction that his progeny would sell well came true with him lambs indemand and selling to a top price for a ram lamb of 2,100gns at the Premier Saleand 1,600gns for a ewe lamb from the Arjane Flock at our joint production sale atMalvern in 1998. He produced a host of prize winning and high price progeny withhis son, ZDG 8014 Highway Mr Softie, taking the Breed Championship at the RoyalShow. Further success for his progeny came with Arjane Celt, ZRF 9001 and Highway Caradog, ZDG 9039, for Dilwyn Davies being selected for the Sire Reference Scheme for the year 2000.The final icing on the cake was to see Rival’s index increasing, especially when oneconsiders that he had in excess of 400 lambs to his name.

A son of Rival who combined power, meat and index. Selected as a Sire ReferenceTup, his progeny have excelled. One of his daughters, ZRF 0026, was placed 1st atthe United Counties and Pembrokeshire Shows and 2nd Ewe lamb at the RoyalWelsh.

ARJANE CAVANAGH - ZRF 2032 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARR

An exceptional sheep by NE 1083 (Southam Bob the Builder) with an eye muscle of34.5 and an index of 272. From the word go he impresses with the powerful headcarriage, good skin, quality of bone coupled with fantastic fleshing over the loin anddown the gigot. He was owned jointly with Mr Dilwyn Davies of the Highway flockand Robert Gregory of the Edstaston Flock, who purchased a share after placinghim 1st at Pembrokeshire County Show. He was the sire of Tullyear Egbert, therenowned stock tup for Drew Cowan.

ARJANE ACE - ZRF 0003 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARQ

This ram was placed Supreme Champion at the Builth II Sale in 2000. Such washis outstanding carcass quality that I retained a one-third share in conjunction withBryan Evans (Penrhos) and Dilwyn Davies (Highway).He was never beaten in the show ring as a lamb and every judge commented on hisoutstanding handling qualities. He was a concrete block on four legs. A son ofScratchmere Benjie out of a Loganbar Logie female and offered the new line ofbreeding that we were seeking.

ARJANE CEILOG CALED - ZRF 2017 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARR

A grandson of ScratchmereBenjie, this ram became ‘MrConsistent’ with stylish, tightskinned sheep. He is bredfrom an “NE” ewe and hisdam’s family were amongstthe highest priced females inthe 2004 Southam Sale.His son, Arjane Forager, obtained a Gold Award at the2005 Premier Sale and soldfor 3,200gns. A daughter,ZRF 4070, sold for 1,250gnsat our female sale. In 2006his son, Arjane Galimoto, was2nd highest ram lamb in theBreed Evaluation and sold for 4,000gns at the Worcester Premier Sale.

FOULRICE EVEREST - DG 4215 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARR

A smart, powerful Westonvale Jubilee son who achieved a Gold Award at theWorcester Premier Sale before being purchased for 2,000gns. Jointly owned withthe Highway and Dewmin flocks. He sired ZRF 5024, Arjane Fit as a Fiddle, sold tothe Rowanstone flock for 1,400gns.

CASTALLAU DOCTOR DAI - TZ 3111 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARR

I purchased a half share from Tim Prichard in this very correct son of Regan Bono.His width of body was immense. He was out of a Penywern ewe, DA 4183, whichthe Castellau flock purchased for 1,850gns in 1995.

SOUTHAM FLAGSHIP - NE 5036 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARR

Sired by Rother Valley Dynamic, the highest indexsire in the breed in 2005 withan index of 466. Flagshipwas purchased jointly with TimPrichard and Ashton Selwayfor 3,100gns at Worcester Premier Sale in 2005. He grew to ge a strong, upstanding sheep and wasMale Champion at the RoyalWelsh Show in 2006 and amember of the winning Interbreed Pairs. He combined index and type.His son, ZRF 7024, stood

Champion Ram lamb at the Breed Evaluation at Worcester Premier Sale 2007, whilstin the 2008 Premier Sale his 2 ram lams achieved 5,000gns and 3,700gns. Hislambs are well fleshed with good heads. He also sired ZRF 7057, InterbreedChampion at Pembrokeshire Show 2009 (see Lot 29).

CARGRIFF GOLDEN EYE - XSY 6008 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARR

A half share was purchased privately for his strong looks, style and great bone quality. He is out of a female line which goes back to Tullochallum, whilst his father,Cargriff Fly Half, is a grandson of Arjane Ceilog Caled and Southam Debonair.Great interest has been expressed in his progeny with ZRF 7005 being 1st prize Ramlamb at the Royal Welsh Show in 2007 and also Reserve Champion Shearling at theNSA Builth Ii in 2008.

EDSTASTON JUNO - TG 9033 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARRJointly purchased for 4,200gns at the Worcester Premier Sale 2009. A correct lambwith an exceptional back end. Edstaston sheep always do well in our flock and hehas some super females amongst our ewe lambs.

GALTRES DOMINATOR - ZKT 3025 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARRTop scoring ram in Breed Evaluation at Worcester PremierSale 2004 purchased for6000gns with the Wardshill andCastellau flocks. At WorcesterPremier Sale 2005 his lambsaveraged 2600gns peaking at5200gns and at Builth II his sonwas Champion and sold for5000gns. In 2006 his progenystood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in theRam Lamb Class at the RoyalWelsh Show, whilst his ewelambs stood 1st, 2nd and 4th.

His progeny were successful in winning the Breed Champion and Interbreed in boththe Singles and Group of Three. He also sired the Champion and Res. Championat NSA Builth II in 2006. In 2007 he sired the Royal Welsh Supreme Championand 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize Shearling Ewes, Champion at the Three Counties and otherprize winners for the Arjane, Castellau and Wardshill flocks. In 2009 Dominator again dominated the Royal Welsh with his daughter achievingSupreme Champion. I am fortunate to have his daughters throughout the flockwith his combination with ZNP 2004 being particularly attractive. One daughter ofthis mating sold for 2,800gnsto John Davies in 2008 andthere are some cracking fullsisters in the sale.

PENRHOS IBANEZ - YLK8020 Scrapie GenotypeARR/ARRPurchased jointly with TimPrichard for 3,500gns, havingcaught my eye with his greatstyle and presence. He hasexcelled for both flocks. In2009 his sons sold for2,000gns and 1600gns at

Hisdaughter also stood 1st prize Ewe lamb at the Royal Welsh.In 2010 he has come into his own, siring the top price ram lamb, Arjane Klansman,for 7,200gns, the Champion Arjane Kukri for 2,800gns and winning the PenywernTrophy for Best Progeny Group.I am sufficiently pleased with this tup to give him heavy usage and 70% of the ewesare in lamb to him or his son.

ARJANE JONNY T - ZRF 9004 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARRA son of Ibanez out of our KX ewe. He is a full brother to Arjane Klansman whosold to the Logie Durno flock for 7,200gns at the Worcester Premier Sale this year.Arjane Jonny T is shared with the Auchenlay flock and I am grateful for them allowing him to chase with my senior ewes this Autumn. This tup has tremendousskin, great movement on parade and style throughout and is massive weighing155kgs in July this year. A feature of the sale will be his six full ewe lamb sisters.

ARTNAGUILLION JOSE - ZGQ 9017 Scrapie Genotype ARR/ARRI purchased him at the Northern Ireland Premier Sale from William McAllister andhe has exceeded expectations. He has a well covered head, fantastic skin andstands square in all four corners. His progeny are superb with tremendous hardfleshing around the gigots. he will be offered for sale at the end of the females andthis is an opportunity any discerning breeder should not miss!He is only being sold as we will not have any work for him during g the next year, buthe could well be the next IBANEZ.
