Aviation Day Promotes Industry to Elected OfficialsThe Arizona Airports Association, (AzAA) and its partners hosted the 6th Annual Aviation Day at the Capitol on Janu-ary 19th. The event was designed to promote the $38 billion aviation industry and its economic impact on Arizona to state legislators and other elected officials.

The event, which was open to the public, drew over four hundred in attendence, which according to AzAA offficials

included some sixty legislators, their staff, and twenty-four exhibitors.

Jeff Tripp, Aviation Day Event Chairman, said the goal was to ensure that the state’s elected officials understand aviation’s tremendous contributions to the State’s economy and the importance of ensuring that the State Aviation Fund, which is a user-fee generated fund, is used for its intended purpose of

helping to expand and maintain Arizona’s public airports.

Casey Denny, President of AzAA, said that Arizona has a tre-mendous diversity of aviation activity, including recreational, business, emergency services, commercial airline service, military, education, and aerospace manufacturing & develop-ment. Denny said the total impact of the state’s aerospace industry, both in terms of economic impact and number of jobs created, is extensive and will continue to grow as long as they can continue to provide and maintain the infrastructure of the state’s airport and aviation facilities.

The event provided information about Arizona’s aviation industry and the multitude of activities and businesses that it supports. Displays included a helicopter,a light fixed wing aircraft, a hot air balloon, and table top displays with informa-tion about the numerous private and public sector aviation contributors.

Aircraft owners and pilots, airport managers, aviation manu-facturers, educators, members of Arizona’s military commu-nity, and many others were present to discuss the importance and impact of aviation in Arizona. Governor Jan Brewer at-tended and spoke briefly on the value of aviation in the state.

Further, the Association works to foster public recognition of airports and the airport execu-tive profession, and to assist in the future develop-ment of air transportation in Arizona, which generates over $38.5 billion in annual economic activity.
