4.5 Item 59, K (Doc 9741-AN/962, Part II, page II-A2-9) The original text is as follows :

59. K

A 4-bit field indicating the transmit window size for outstanding packet acknowledgements. The value is cal-culated as the transmit window size +1. Therefore the value can range from 1 to 16. The value is only used in RLS transmissions.

This text implies somewhat confusion. Who’s value can range from 1 to 16? Is it the K’ s value? If so, then it means that: the value of K can range from 1 to 16; however, the value is calculated as the transmit window size +1, then the transmit window size can range from 0 to 15. Is this the original intention? What’s the meaning about “transmit window size = 0”? On the other hand, when we refer to the octet 6 in Figure II-A1-8 (Doc 9741-AN/962, Part II, page II-A1-9), as follows :

0 0 0 0 k (transmit window size)

The bits 4 to 1 indicate the k (transmit window size). It does mean that the k (transmit window size) can range from 0 to 15. Does the k in Figure II-A1-8 equal to the K in item 59 above?

In order to resolve these confusions, if the original intention is k = K , and the transmit window size should range from 1 to 16, then we can make following modifications:

a) The item 59 should be modified as follows :

59. k

13

Page 14: ARINC Comments on the AMCP WG-M/5 Appendix F  · Web viewAMCP WG-M6. WP/2. AERONAUTICAL MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS PANEL (AMCP) WGM-6. December 11-20, 2002. ARINC Comments on the AMCP

HFDL Technical Manual Response to AMCP WG-M/5 Proposals

This is the transmit window size specified by the HFDL ground station subsystem in the log-on confirm and log-on resume confirm LPDU for outstanding packet ack-nowledgements. The value of k can range from 1 to 16. It is only used in RLS transmissions. The four least significant bits of the octet 6 in the log-on confirm and log-on resume confirm LPDU is equal to k – 1. Such as, if all the four bits are set to 0, then k=1; if all the four bits are set to 1, then k=16.

ROCKWELL COLLINS- This is correcting a mistake in 9741-AN/962 which is also confusing in 635-3.Webelieve that all the references to k and window size in 635 should be reviewed before submitting supplement 4 for approval. ARINC - Concurs

b) The octet 6 in the log-on confirm and log-on resume confirm LPDU should be modified as follows :

0 0 0 0 k(transmit window size) -1

ROCKWELL COLLINS- This is correcting a mistake in 9741-AN/962 which is also confusing in 635-3.Webelieve that all the references to k and window size in 635 should be reviewed before submitting supplement 4 for approval. At a minimum, Attachment 2-10E should be changed to say " k (transmit window size) - 1" as this does. ARINC - Concurs

1 Table II-3-3. Information held by the aircraft and ground station subsystems (Doc 9741-AN/962, Part II, page II-3-3)

1.1 The fourth cell of the left column should be modified as follows:

D(N)vect – flags indicating if the HFDL ground station subsystem has negatively acknowledged D(A)+1…D(a)+8kROCKWELL COLLINS- This is correcting a definition in 9741-AN/962 which is also 635-3 (see Table 5-5). This is somewhat complicated by the fact that in uplinked acknowledgements, there are only 8 bits allowed for D(N)vect. What was intended for this table was to identify the field, and the fact that it is possibly a subset of the total outstanding transmissions (since the window range is 1-16). 635-3 explains this in section 5.2.4.2.3 and 5.2.4.2.4. What should be done is to have this table (and therefore 635-3 Table 5-5) use k, the window size. The commentary which describes the field that goes into the MPDU acknowledgment field should indicate that the transmitted D(N)vect contains only 8 bits, and therefore represents D(A)+1… D(A)+k or D(A)+1… D(A)+8 if

k>8.Wethink that this would solve the problem in 9741-AN/962. 635-3 needs to be reviewed with a fine toothed comb to make sure that these definitions are correct and they should be made in accordance with the changes to 9741-AN/962. ARINC - Concurs

1.2 The fourth cell of the right column should be modified as follows:

U(N)vect – flags indicating if the HFDL aircraft station subsystem has negatively acknowledged U(A)+1…U(a)+8kROCKWELL COLLINS- This is correcting a definition in 9741-AN/962 which is also 635-3 (see Table 5-5). Per the item above: We think that this would solve the problem in 9741-AN/962. 635-3 needs to be reviewed with a fine toothed comb to make sure that these definitions are correct and they should be made in accordance with the changes to 9741-AN/962.

Recommendation: The text of paragraph 3.1.3 should refer to Table II-3-3 at somewhere.ROCKWELL COLLINS- This is also recommended by Rockwell Collins. However the likely reference point does not exist, except at the introduction to the topic. Possibly the sentence" Table II-3-3 identifies information pertinent to the Reliable Link Service protocol." could be added as the content of main paragraph 3.1.3. The section is currently empty.

2 Paragraph 3.1.3.3.1 (Doc 9741-AN/962, Part II, page II-3-4)

2.1 The third sub-paragraph should be modified as follows:

- U(A)vect. A field of 8k bits, each of which represents whether or not each of the LPDUs starting from the sequence number U(A)+1 to U(A) + k has been acknowledged by the HFDL aircraft station subsystem, where k is the transmit window size. A bit set to one (1) indicates that the LPDU has been positively acknowledged.ROCKWELL COLLINS- This is correcting a definition in 9741-AN/962 which is also 635-3 (see Table 5-5). Per the item above: We think that this would solve the problem in 9741-AN/962. 635-3 needs to be reviewed with a fine toothed comb to make sure that these definitions are correct and they should be made in accordance with the changes to 9741-AN/962.

2.2 The fourth sub-paragraph should be modified as follows:

- U(N)vect. A field of k bits, each of which represents whether or not each of the LPDUs

starting from the sequence number U(A) + 1 to U(A) + k has been negatively acknowledged by the HFDL aircraft station subsystem, where k is the transmit window size. For an LPDU to be considered negatively acknowledged, a U(R)/U(R)vect must be received at least three slots after the transmission of the LPDU. A bit set to one (1) indicates that the LPDU has been negatively acknowledged.

Note—The window size k can be larger than the 8 bits of the U(R)vect. Those LPDUs transmitted in the window, but not included in the U(R)vect, cannot be considered as either ACKed or NACKed.ROCKWELL COLLINS- This is attempting to correct confusion in 9741-AN/962 which is also 635-3 (see Table 5-5). We think that this does not quite solve the problem in 9741-AN/962. What this needs to say in the note is "The window size k can be larger than the 8 bits of the portion of U(R)vect sent in a downlink". 635-3 needs to be reviewed with a fine toothed comb to make sure that these definitions are correct and they should be made in accordance with the changes to 9741-AN/962.

3 Paragraph 3.1.3.3.9 (Doc 9741-AN/962, Part II, page II-3-5)

3.1 The third sub-paragraph should be modified as follows:

- D(A)vect. A field of 8k bits, each of which represents whether or not each of the LPDUs starting from the sequence number D(A)+1 to D(A) + k has been acknowledged by the HFDL ground station subsystem, where k is the transmit window size. A bit set to one (1) indicates that the LPDU has been positively acknowledged.ROCKWELL COLLINS- This is correcting a definition in 9741-AN/962 which is also 635-3 (see Table 5-5). Per the item above: We think that this would solve the problem in 9741-AN/962. 635-3 needs to be reviewed with a fine toothed comb to make sure that these definitions are correct and they should be made in accordance with the changes to 9741-AN/962. 3.2 The fourth sub-paragraph should be modified as follows:

- D(N)vect. A field of k bits, each of which represents whether or not each of the LPDUs starting from the sequence number D(A) + 1 to D(A) + k has been negatively acknowledged by the HFDL aircraftground station subsystem, where k is the transmit window size. For an LPDU to be considered negatively acknowledged, a D(R)/D(R)vect must be received at least three slots after the transmission of the LPDU. A bit set to one (1) indicates that the LPDU has been negatively acknowledged.

Zhou Zhuoren, addresses an inconsistency in the number of octets described, and a redundant definition. Rockwell Collins feels that a further review is needed on Change Proposal 2 (Fig II-4-6, Connection released HFNPDU format). Items 3 and 4 are from Rockwell Collins, and are agreed to by Professor Zhou..

Backwards compatibility: Yes.Amendment Proposal: See Below:WG-M Status: Pending 2001-12-18

1 ATTACHMENT 2 to Part II, FIELD CODING AND DESIGNATIONS, Item 15 (Doc 9741-AN/962, Part II, page II-A2-3)

a) Change the description of item 15 as “ASSIGNED FREQUENCY”; b) Change the FIELD CODING AND DESIGNATIONS of item 15 as:

15. ASSIGNED FREQUENCY(4 octets)

The assigned frequency contains two sub-fields, the FREQUENCY FIELD (3 octets, see item 69) and the MASTER FRAME SLOT OFFSET. (1 octet, bits 8 to 5 shall

be set to “0”, bits 4 to 1 indicate the TDMA FRAME OFFSET, see item 12).

ROCKWELL COLLINS- This is attempting to correct the situation where two fields being defined have the same content but two different definitions. One field was contained in the text of 635-3 and the other in a figure. The one he suggests describing here is the one in the figure of attachment 2-10c, and it contains the frequency and master frame slot offset for an entry in the system table. The other item referenced here is item 69 which describes the frequency field portion of this item. We would have preferred a different solution to this problem: If you leave item 15 with no changes as a 3 octet field, and delete item 69, the redundant description of the 3 octets with some additional description of "order", you would not disturb the content of the document. We do not know if the document contains the words "assigned frequency" that the professor is trying to define (the combination of frequency and the four bit master frame offset. If the change is accepted as is, then the definition for item 69 should add some words that indicate order in the system table, and refer the reader to item 15, as amended for the format.

ARINC – Concurs 2. Figure II-4-6, Connection released HFNPDU format (Doc 9741-AN/962, Part II, page II-4-37)

a) The original octet 1 is 0 0 0 0 1 x x x

It should be modified as follows : 0 0 0 1 0 0 x 0

ROCKWELL COLLINS This is not in 635-3. The change does make 9741-AN/962 agree with the SATCOM specification (according to Inmarsat documentation).

ARINC – Concurs

b) The original octet 4 isClearing cause*

It should be modified as follows : Clearing cause

i.e. the star should be deleted, because the clearing cause field is necessary, and there is no indicator bit for indicating the clearing cause field present.

ROCKWELL COLLINS This is not in 635-3. The change does make 9741-AN/962 agree with the SATCOM specification (according to Inmarsat documentation).

Function was out of communication in the previous flight leg. The second 16 bits shall contain the number of 32 second frames that the aircraft HFDL Function was out of communication in the current flight leg.”

ROCKWELL COLLINS This agrees with the change introduced in 635-3.

4. Attachment 2 to Part II, item 25, new codes have been added:

In the first table, reason codes for aircraft log-on denied, “03h Other”has been added, changing the last entry to “04h –FFh Reserved”.

In the second table, reason codes for aircraft log-off request, “07h Temporary Transceiver Shutdown”has been added, changing the last entry to “08h – FFh Reserved”

ROCKWELL COLLINS This agrees with the change introduced in 635-3.
