Iagaintaketheopportunitytoaddupafewlines.Isupposethatthecausewillsoonbeputintoeffectthatwillfineme$1000andimprisonmefor5or10yearsandsetyouall

free,then,Icannotaddressyouanylongerasdearwives,soIsupposeasthetimeisbut

shortforustoholdourpresentrelationswemayaswellbegintolookoutforsomeone

totakeseveralplaces.OnlythinkwhatanawfulsituationIamin,orwillbeinwhen

UncleSammakesusallfree.Byandby,Isupposethatthesamepowerthatmakesyou

allfree,willprovideyouwithahusbandapieceandpoorwitha[time]inthe

penitentiary,orinsomeofthefortsthatistobemadeforthatpurpose,whatafine

timethenthesoldierswillhaverunningatlargeinUtahandenjoyingthesocietyofthe

Mormon'swives.Theneverythingwillbelegitimatetoallintentsandpurpose,I

suppose.

Thisnodoubt,istheanticipationofmanyofthecivilizersofthe19thcentury,butGodis

atthehelm,andifwewillalldoright,Hewilloverruleallthingsforourgoodandfor

theupbuildingofHiskingdomhereupontheearth,nevertheless,theymaysubjectus

tomanyinconveniences,anddepriveusofsomeofourenjoyments.Butmarkthisone

thing,andthatisthatwickednessisbeingtakeninhandbytheLord,andthatalldoers

ofthesamewillsomebegintoreceivetheirreward.Manyofthepeopleinthisplace,

whodonotbelongtoanychurch,areprophesyingandarelookingforwardforthe

fulfillmentofthatspokenbythemouthofJohn.Itellthemthattheyareatleasthalf

right,andthatGodwillnotmuchlongersufferthewickedandungodlytogo

unpunished.YoucannotimaginetowhatapitchthingsarecarriedinthisChristianland,andifthereisnotsomeweepingandgnashingofteethbeforelongIshallmissbyguess.

TomorrowIamgoingovertoLakeCity,Minnesota,byinvitationfromsomegentleman

ofthatplace,todeliverafewlectures.Thepeoplethinghereseemsthattheword

lectureisfarbetterthantosaypreachthegospeloftheSonofGod,butsofarasthatis

concernedtheymayhaveittheirownway,itmattersnottome.IdohopethatIshall

besuccessfulindoingthecauseofChristjustice.

MyprayertoGodisallthetimethatImaybeaninstrumentinHishandsofdoingmuch

goodbeforeIcomehomeinthespring,forasyetIcannotseethatIhaveaccomplishedaverygreatdeal,butstillIbelievethattheLordthroughme,Hisservant,hasputsome

levenintothelump,andIthink,thatassoonastheweathergetswarmenoughtoheat

thedough,thatitwillbegintorise,thenIshallheattheovenandbakethebread.

HavingreceivednoletterfromyousinceIlastwrotetoyou,Ihavenothingtoanswer,

butIanticipatereceivingoneinadayortwo,oratleastbeforeIwriteagain.Isuppose

thatyoubegintothinkthatIhavenothingtodobuttowritetoyouonaccountofyour

receivingasmanylettersfrommeforquitealengthoftimepast,butyoumaysoonlook

forafallingoffinthisline.IshallstilldothebestthatIcan.Idonotknowthatmy

lettersareveryinteresting,yettheyareintendedforthebest.Inevermissadaybut

whatIprayforyouall,andthattwoorthreetimes

IhopeyouareallwellandenjoyingyourselvesasusualandIhopethateverythingisallrightabouthomeandthroughouttheTerritoryofUtah.Igetallthenewsabout

Godbee,HarrisonandCo.andwhattheyareabout.Oh,foolsthattheyare.

Spiritualismseemstobetheorderofthedayintheseparts,butItellthemthatisinthe

oppositiontothetruerevelationsthathasbeengiventotheL.D.S.Joshuaisoverthe

riverdrawingwoodforWhite,hisson-in-law,andIhavebeentopandallhandsfora

shorttime.HewasnotverywellwhenhelefthomelastMondaymorning,butIhope

hewillbebetterwhenhegetshome.Lucindaiswell,theybothsendtheirkindregards

toyouallandsodoI.

Iamgettingnervousandmustsoonbringmyscribbletoastop.Givemykindregardsto
