Originally nike did no t intend to branch forward into the skateboarding market.

Low top trainers were not cutting it throughout the skateboarding sport, in terms of protection and durability. the most effective approach to this problem was wearing hi-top trainers which covered the skaters ankles and offered much more comfort and control.

Nike launched their blazers out of skateboarders using their basket ball branded shoes. Allowing a fresh new style to emerge.
