The movie Argois an exciting historical drama that takes place in Iran, directed byBen Affleck. It is a watchable, enjoyable film, with some hilarious and nail-biting moments. It tells the true story of an imaginative, brave and brilliant CIA agent called Tony Mendez. The story is based upon the bookThe Master of Disguise written personally by the CIA operativeTony Mendez, who led the rescue of the six U.S. diplomats fromTehran,Iran, during the 1979Iran hostage crisis. The main role is played by Ben Affleck personally and the supporting roles are played by the excellent Hollywood actors John Goodman, Bryan Cranston andAlan Arkin. In 1979, six American officials managed to escape via the back door from the US embassy in Tehran, just as it was overrun by a pro-Ayatollah mob who brutally held the remaining personnel hostage. This was an ordeal for them and for the presidency of the USA president Jimmy Carter.

While the six escapers hide up secretly at the Canadian ambassador's residence, at CIA headquarters, the crisis was handled by Mendez, the agency's top guy an expert in exfiltration, or getting Americans out of enemy territory. He is played by Affleck who showed a stolid, modest and unflashy performance.Mendez is having a crazy, but inspired idea how to save the escapers. He will fly from Turkey into Iran with seven fake Canadian passports one for each of them, pretending to be a Canadian movie producer who is searching locations for his new sci-fi thriller calledArgo. Although afraid from Mendez's idea and scenario, they will agree and go along with it, knowing that he is risking his own life too. All of them will be dressed up and act as a Canadian movie crew.Mendez and the escapees will arrive atMehrabad International Airportand get through security with a lot of difficulties and tension. They will be double checked and questioned about the movie from the guards. Convinced and persuated the guards allow the group to board the plane, and all the escapees are happily rescued. To protect the other hostages that remained in Tehran from a revenge, all US involvement in the rescue is hidden and the full credit is given to the Canadian government and its ambassador. Mendez is awarded theIntelligence Star. The collaboration between the CIA and some of the Hollywoods best directors, along with the involvement of Canada makes for one of the biggest international team-ups to withhold peace without the use of violent force.Argoreceived seven nominations for the85th Academy Awardsand won three, forBest Film Editing, best Adapted Screenplay, andBest Picture. The film also earned and won many other nominations!

Argo is an entertaining and exciting movie, excellent for enjoying Saturdays night.
