Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) The most famous Berlin landmark, and one of the most history-charged locations in Europe.

Fernsehturm (Television Tower) It is impossible to imagine Berlin's skyline without this tower that was erected in East Germany in 1965, Germany's highest building with an observation deck.

East Side Gallery The 1.3 km long remnant of the Berlin Wall is an open-air museum and gallery today.

Berlin In General

Berlin is the capital and also the largest city of Germany with a population of ca. 3.6 million. After World War II the city was divided into four sectors (with American, British, French and Soviet administrative responsibilities respectively). The East-West conflict led to the "Berlin Airlift" in 1948/49 with which the Western Allies bypassed an economic blockade by the Soviet Union. This culminated in the construction of the Berlin Wall that made Berlin a divided city from 1961-1990. East and West Berlin were completely isolated from each other. The political turnaround in the former East Germany led to the border being opened again; on 3 October 1990, the city was reunited and was declared German capital via the Unification Treaty.

During the Achtung Baby recordings at Hansa Studio, U2 discovered Berlin for themselves and since then, have maintained a close relationship to the city. Thus, the number of locations related to the band are numerous. Coincidence or fate: the underground line U2 gets you directly to the Olympic Stadium which U2 played on all stadium tours since ZOO TV.
