When GNB Voc-Tech day school has been cancelled for inclement weather, evening school classes ARE NOT automatically can-celled. A separate decision will be made and announced. Make-up clas-ses will be scheduled at the discretion of the Adult Education Director.

At the conclusion of each non-license class, students will be given a certificate in their re-spective programs if they have attended 75% of the required class.

It is a school policy that no one is allowed into the building or any of the classrooms at any time unless they are an Adult Education stu-dent.

C.E.U.’s and P.D.P.’s are available upon re-quest for some courses.

Registration is open to all, regardless of where they reside.

Classes operate on a Trimester System. All classes run for 8 weeks from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday unless otherwise stated.

Tuition will be returned if it is impossible to conduct a course or the student decides to

drop out of a planned course before it begins.

Senior Citizens (60 or over) will receive a $10.00 discount for all 8 week classes and a $5.00 discount for 4 week classes.

Students must be 18 or older and not currently a high school student to take a course or be in the classroom during instruction.

Marine Trades & Technology Basic Certificate Course

This 45-hour Certificate Course is designed to provide an entry-level overview for those thinking of a career in the marine trades. This course will concentrate on entry-level skills necessary for employment in the marine industry. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an industry-recognized Massachusetts Marine Trades Association Certificate. This credential provides an excellent basis for hiring in the field. 10-Hour OSHA Card may be available through separate course for an additional fee.

Marine Trades include: boat builders, boat and yacht repairers and restorers, boat salespeople, retail store personnel, fiberglass technicians, canvas and sail makers, marina managers, riggers, surveyors, outboard and diesel mechanics, HVAC specialists, marine electricians, and electronics/network technicians.

IWT-01 Night: Tuesday

Industrial/Municipal Wastewater Training

12 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm

Instructor: Vinny Furtado

This twelve week course will introduce the student to the physical and

chemical processes associated with water quality, pollution, and

treatment of liquid wastes, as they pertain to Municipal and Industrial

Operations. The student will be exposed to the function of related

equipment and support systems and the environmental

responsibilities required to safely and properly operate and maintain a

Wastewater Treatment Facility. Topics covered include municipal

wastewater treatment processes, industrial wastewater treatment

processes, collection systems, regulations, laboratory and math. This

course will concentrate on preparing students to pass a Grade 4

Municipal Wastewater License exam, a Massachusetts Basic

Industrial Wastewater License exam and/or a Grade 5 Combined

Wastewater License Exam. This course is also a State of

Massachusetts approved class for obtaining Training Contact Hours.

Fitters Session #6 License Renewal

MA master plumbers and gas fitters, journeyman plumbers and gasfit-

ters, and LP installers are required by CMR 11.00 to compete Session

#6 prior to license renewal. This class will utilize IAPMO course curric-

ulum materials which include Board updates, chimney and venting

updates, appliance installation requirements, tool and product news,

related industry issues, administrative topics, code compliant installa-

tion methods, alternative plumbing technologies, and business items

that currently effect all licensees. Students need to sign up for both

courses and need their license number.

PL-01: Tier 1 program for the licensed apprentice plumber. Course

consists of 110 class hours along with a final exam. Licensees

must pass tier 1 final exam before continuing to PL-02.

PL-02: Tier 2 program for the licensed apprentice plumber. PL-01

or equivalent required. Course consists of 110 class hours along

with a final exam. Licensees must pass tier 2 final exam before

continuing to PL-03.

PL-03: Tier 3 program for the licensed apprentice plumber. PL-01

and PL-02 or equivalent required. Course consists of 110 class

hours along with a final exam. Licensees must pass tier 3 final

exam before continuing to PL-04.

PL-04: Tier 4 program for the licensed apprentice plumber. PL-01,

PL-02 and PL-03 or equivalent required. Course consists of 110

PL-05: Tier 5 program for the licensed apprentice plumber or the

Journeyman Plumber seeking to obtain a master plumber license.

PL-06: License test prep. This course is designed for the licensee

preparing for the plumbing exam. This program is tailored

according to the needs of the students. Extra emphasis focused on

areas of weakness.

6-Hour Special License Renewal

Individuals licensed to operate boilers under a special license shall

demonstrate completion of 6 hours of continuing education at or

through an institution or organization approved by the commissioner,

in consultation with the chief inspector, during each 5-year period

proceeding each license renewal.

MA State 3rd Class Engineer’s License Prep

Covers the joints, valve settings of pumps and simple engines,

turbines, and condensers.

PT-01 Night: Thursday Pharmacy Technician Instructor: Kimberly Scieska 12 weeks 5:30—8:30 pm

This course will prepare participants for employment within both the clinical and retail pharmacy practice. Focus will be placed on medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, inventory systems, and

regulations affecting pharmacy practice.

Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to sit for the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam which would provide them with a CPHT (Certified Pharmacy Technician)

license.



EKG-01 Night: Tuesday

EKG TECHNICIAN Instructor: Marcus Loureiro 10 weeks 6:00 - 9:30 pm

The objective of this course is to gain experience as an EKG techni-

cian using the following skills:

Properly obtaining EKG including lead placement

Troubleshooting and artifacts

Heart Anatomy and Physiology

Diseases of the heart

Operating and adjusting of EKG monitors

Pacemaker Rhythms

Reading and Interpretation of EKG recordings

An EKG Technician Certificate will be given at course completion to students receiving a 70% or better course average. Also offered (not mandatory or required for employment) is a Nation-al Certification by the American Medical Certification Association—AMCA (for an additional fee). Our students will have the mandatory

The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Program is a certificate program to help answer the need for qualified assistants in ophthalmology prac-tices. This program is designed to teach the basic skills needed to

perform eye exams and prepare the patient for the ophthalmologist.

Spanish for Health Care Professionals

Instructor: Kevin Beaulieu 8 weeks 6:30 - 9:30 pm

Topics will include learning how to deal with admissions, appoint-ments, documentations, checkout, pregnancy, symptoms, pediatric care, geriatric care, drug abuse, emergencies, surgery, birth control, and much more. This is a great class for people who wish to interact

in Spanish with patients and co-workers.

CPR-01 Night: Monday & Wednesday

CPR (Heartsaver CPR/AED) Instructor: Erin Marcotte Do you need to earn a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet a job or regulatory requirement? Learn how to deliver adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. The American Heart Association’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, allows instructors to observe you, provide feedback, and guide you. You will recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compres-sions, and deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. No medical training required. You need to complete a written

exam and pass to earn your completion card.

The cost includes a $22.00 fee for the CPR AED Certification Card.

FW-02 Night: Monday

Traditional Half-Hull Model Building Instructor: Marsom Pratt II of Gloriana Boat Hulls 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This course will explain how to read naval architects’ blue prints.

This information will then be put to use in constructing a half mod-

el using the lift method. At the end of the class, each student will

have a finished model. Tools will be supplied. Each student will be

responsible for purchasing their own wood. Some wood working

experience required.

Material Fee: $50 material fee due first class


CP-09 Night: Tuesday

Introduction to CAD/CNC for Woodworking Instructor: Jeff Fortin 8 Weeks 6:30 - 9:30 pm This is a basic CAD and CNC course for woodworking. Students will

learn the CAD/CNC language, programming and machine operation

needed to design/machine basic woodworking project parts, signs,

basic cabinetry, and 3D carvings. We will be using Alphacam and

Aspire for the CAD programming and Multicam for CNC router

machining.

Prerequisite: Basic computer and woodworking skills


WC-01 Night: Thursday

Woodcarving Instructor: Michael Weydt 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This course will cover basic, intermediate and advanced carving

techniques depending on the student’s skill level. We will discuss

safety, tools, sharpening, woods, finishes and other related topics.

Materials will be provided for the first two carving projects which will

be suitable for display. Students may purchase additional projects

thereafter at a modest fee. This is a perfect course for all Boy/Girl

Scout leaders or badge councilors!

CP-05 Night: Monday

Massachusetts Building Code Instructor: William Horrocks 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This course will prepare students planning to take the Construction

Supervisor's licensing exam. “Understanding the MA State Building

Code” is B.B.R.S. approved for 10 continuing education credits for

certified building officials.

*Current Editions of MA Commercial Code, 1 & 2 Family Code, Int’l

Building Code and Energy Codes are included in the price.

($400 value).


CP-12A & CP-12B Night: Tuesday

12-Hour MA Construction Supervisors

License Renewal Instructor: William Horrocks CP-12A will run the first four Tuesdays. (Sept. 11— Oct. 2) 6:30 - 9:30pm

CP-12B will run the last four Tuesdays. (Oct. 9—Oct. 30) 6:30 - 9:30pm

Anyone holding a MA General Contractor’s License is required to

take 12 hours of continuing education for that cycle. This course has

been approved by the Massachusetts Board of Regulations and

Standards for 12 hours of continuing education requirements.

CP-13 Night: Wednesday

Massachusetts Building Official Certification Instructor: Dave Riquina 8 Weeks 6:30 – 9:30

This course is intended to prepare individuals to take the building

inspector certification exams. Candidates must meet the minimum

qualifications of MGL chapter 143 - 3, which requires a minimum of

five years of construction experience in a direct supervisory

position to take the certification exam. Certification will qualify you

for municipal employment as a building inspector.

Basic Carpentry II

Instructor: Jeff Fortin

8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm

This course will continue with woodworking basics: specific skills in

light power tool equipment, basic joinery, and cabinet basics.

Students will be required to make a few small projects with step-by-

step procedures and instruction. Knowledge gained will assist

students in furthering their skills in woodworking. Safety is stressed

throughout.

Prerequisite: CP-01/previous carpentry training

Basic Carpentry

8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm

This course will introduce woodworking basics; specific skills in

measurement, layout, and the proper use of hand tools. Students

will be required to make a few small projects with step-by-step

procedures and instruction. The basics are vital knowledge needed

to better understand more advanced woodworking techniques.

Safety is stressed throughout.


CP-03 Night: Monday

Residential Housing Technology

Instructor: Dave Doyle

8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm

This course is designed for the future or present homeowners that

are contemplating building, renovating, or repairing their own homes

along with general home maintenance. Classes will cover building

terminology, replacement windows, code requirements, and drawing

techniques to obtain a building permit. Shop instruction will include

use of hand and power tools, rafter and stair layout using a framing

square.


PA-01 Night: Tuesday

Furniture Refinishing Fundamentals

Instructor: Joseph Arruda

8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm

If you have a piece of furniture that needs a face lift, this is the course

to take. The first class will be an orientation to evaluate the piece,

and an overview of different types of finishes and solvents. Students

are responsible for all materials, solvents, and finishes.

Reconstruction is held to a minimum.


FW-01 Night: Thursday

Fine Woodworking

Instructor: Joseph Arruda

8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm

If you have some experience in woodworking and would like to take

the next step in creating a turn of the century piece, take the chal-

lenge. This course includes complete step-by-step instruction in cre-

ating a one of a kind piece such as a Queen Anne step stool and a

true hand-cut dovetail blanket chest, using typical hand tools and

modern machine techniques.

Prerequisite: CP-01/ previous carpentry training


CP-04 Night: Monday or Tuesday

Instructor: Donald Desrosiers

8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm

The use of power equipment, safety, and operation make up this pro-

gram. Students are required to do a project that involves the use of

circular saws, jointers, radial saws, planers, shapers, and small power

tools.

Microsoft Word 2010

Instructor: Cathy Chace 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This course will introduce students to Microsoft Word and the word processing skills necessary to write letters and reports, create flyers and newsletters, and improve office skills. In this hands-on course, students will learn how to create documents, format pages and text, create tables, envelopes and labels, edit and proof documents, and

use the mail merge feature.

Prerequisite: Windows or equivalent knowledge.


DP-08 Night: Tuesday

Microsoft Excel 2010 Instructor: TBD 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This course will introduce students to Microsoft Excel. Students will learn how to format data and use formulas. Students will also learn how to design charts and how to filter/sort data. Intermediate skills such as absolute references, conditional formatting, and linking cells are also introduced in this session. Students will master the basics

of Excel through hands-on instruction.




Introduction to Technology Instructor: Michele Lareau 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm Learn more about your new computer and devices. Use the Internet on your own and understand what your friends and family are talking about when it comes to computers. Learn everything you ever

wanted to know about computers and more!



Microsoft Access 2010 Beginners Instructor: Ron Quintin 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This beginners class will introduce students to database

administration through Access. The student will build, manage and

maintain databases containing numerous objects. Also, the student

will work with the intermediate skills of designing relational

databases, querying databases, customizing input forms, and

creating custom reports.




Introduction to Web Site Design Instructor: Serena Lopes 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This course introduces students to planning and designing effective web pages and implementing web pages by writing HTML code. Students will learn how to enhance web pages with the use of page layout techniques, text formatting, graphics, images and multimedia,

and functional, multi-page website production.

This course will introduce students to the basic operations of Adobe Photoshop. In this beginners course, students will learn the skills required to complete fundamental tasks. These tasks will include having an understanding of how to navigate through the vast array of tools and commands, how to create and modify documents and how to complete basic photo retouching and image/color correction. You will learn the basics of Photoshop through numerous entertaining projects using a hands-on approach. Additionally, vector graphics

Small Engine Repair Instructor: Paul Estrella 8 Weeks 6:30—9:30 pm This program includes troubleshooting inspections and analyzing four-cycle engines. Also included: ignition, carbonization, lubrication of piston rings and rods. This is a great opportunity to learn how to fix your lawn mower, snow blower, chain saw, weed whacker, as well as

This course will continue with Machine Shop Basics. Students will be required to make a few small projects with step-by-step procedures and instructions. Knowledge gained will assist students in furthering their skills in Machine Shop Technology Milling Operations. This course will show students how to set-up milling machines, proper use of milling machines, and milling machine operations. Safety is

stressed throughout this course.

This class will enable participants to create many floral projects such

as wreath making and decorating; how to care and condition cut and

dried flowers; making centerpieces; corsages and boutonnieres; Ori-
