During working as Nutrition Team Leader, I had involved in National Nutrition surveys such as Iodide salt consumption survey and Food and Nutrition surveys; nutrition education to community; training of basic health staffs on nutrition and growth monitoring and promotion activities.

I joined Master of Public Health training in Dec 2008-Dec 2009 at University of Public Health, Yangon and attained MPH in Jan 2010. I conducted a cross-sectional survey entitled “Infant and young child feeding practices and nutritional status of under three year old children” in 2009 as part of my MPH Thesis. I continued my carrier in Nutrition as a medical officer in National Nutrition Center of Ministry of Health since March 2010 by involving in monitoring and supervision of nutrition programmes, training of state/regions nutrition teams.

I joined doctorate program in Nutrition in Nov 2010 at Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, Regional Center for Food and Nutrition (SEAMEO REFON), University of Indonesia and attained PhD (Nutrition) in June 2014. During my doctorate training, I have conducted a preliminary survey to assess the intake of micronutrients among 12-23 month old children and to develop local food-based complementary feeding recommendations (CFR) using Linear Programming Approach. Using this CFR and in comparison with iron supplementation, a randomized controlled trial was conducted to see the effect on micronutrient status, growth and gut microbiota of 12-23 month old Myanmar children (Clinical Trials.gov Identifier - NCT01758159) as part of my doctorate study.

Now, I am working as an Assistant Director in Nutrition Research Section of National Nutrition Center (NNC), Department of Public Health, Ministry of Health and involving in drafting of national plan of action for food and nutrition; supervision, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition programs being carried out in state/regions. As a staff from Nutrition Research Section, I am also involving in development of proposal and instruments for Myanmar Micronutrient and Food Consumption Survey (MMFCS) which will be conducted in 2016-2017, upgrading nutrition laboratory to be an accredited nutrition laboratory so as to do the nutrient content analysis of foods and also to update Myanmar food composition database.

Name Dare Baldwin Current Appointment Full Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Oregon E-mail: [email protected]

Area of Research/Teaching Social, Cognitive, and Language Development

Biography Dare Baldwin completed undergraduate work in Psychology at U.C. Berkeley, received a master’s at U.C. Santa Cruz, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Stanford University, with a special designation in Cognitive Science. Baldwin investigates the human potential for knowledge acquisition. Although humans acquire knowledge at a remarkable pace from earliest infancy on, much remains mysterious about the underlying mechanisms making this possible. Baldwin seeks to understand how the human mind, from earliest infancy on, rapidly and effectively acquires and organizes world knowledge across many domains. Emerging findings offer new insights into individual differences that enhance or undercut knowledge acquisition. Baldwin’s research has been recognized by awards such as APA’s Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology, Boyd McCandless and Cattell Awards, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Baldwin is a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, as well as a member of the executive board of the Society for Language Development.

Jackilen Shannon Associate Professor Director, Integrated Program in Community Research E-mail: [email protected]

Area of Research/Teaching

Dr. Jackilen Shannon is a nutritional epidemiologist with a strong track record of investigation in the role of diet and nutrition in chronic disease. She joined Oregon Health and Science University in 2000. Dr. Shannon teaches research proposal development and research design. As a nutritional epidemiologist, Dr. Shannon’s work focuses on the impact of environmental risk factors, primarily dietary intake, on the early development of disease and specific biologic mechanism whereby diet may impact disease risk, specifically via inflammation. This research also expands into the broader role of metabolic factors, including obesity and fat distribution on disease risk. Though historically she has focused on cancer prevention, recent work suggesting a role of dietary intake and maternal body composition in cognitive development in the child has raised her interest and she believes there is a great opportunity to utilize methodologies from nutritional epidemiology to carefully and fully elucidate this potential association.
