Have you recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes? Are you unsure of what diabetes is? The Interlake-Eastern Community Wellness Team is here to help you. A how-to workshop for changing relationships with food. Change your thinking, change your eating. Are you craving change in your eating habits? Want to kick a bad habit? Do you struggle with your eating and want to learn how you can create a healthier you? Then this FREE program is the class for you!

Mobile Wellness (MW) events are free events that bring a team of health care professionals to provide education and help you make healthy lifestyle choices. MW includes: a health check (blood pressure, blood glucose, and a lifestyle quiz); healthy displays on physical activity, nutrition, smoking and stress, healthy lifestyles presentation and a passport to record results.

Get Better Together:

Are you living with a chronic condition such as arthritis, MS, depression, asthma, chronic pain, diabetes, anxiety, cancer, fibromyalgia or heart disease? Come join Get Better Together! People with different chronic health problems attend together to deal with common issues they face and to motivate each other with solutions and techniques for:

• Dealing with frustration, pain, fatigue and isolation • Communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals • Appropriate exercises for maintaining & improving strength, flexibility & endurance • Appropriate use of medications • Maintaining appropriate nutrition • Engaging with other community resources

This FREE 6 week workshop is designed to help people with ongoing health conditions take control of their health. This program, led by others living with chronic conditions, can help you develop a plan to deal with the challenges of an ongoing health concern or disability. Bring a friend, family member, or other support person to attend with you!

Get Better Together! Online:

If you are not able to attend this program in a nearby community, the Online workshop may be for you! If you have access to an Internet connection for up to two hours per week, you can take part in the Online workshop on your own time. The workshop is held entirely Online on a secure website. Sessions are posted each week for six weeks. This way you can participate 2-3 times a week, when it’s convenient for you. Communication takes place by email and on the website message boards which are monitored by workshop leaders. These leaders understand the challenges of ongoing conditions. Improve your health and your life by getting support from Get Better Together!

Run to Quit: Quitting smoking is hard. Run to Quit makes it easier. A virtual program begins September 11th! However, participants can register for the virtual program or Do It Yourself option until September 30, 2017.

First Week Challenge Contest Here is another way to quit. The First Week Challenge Contest encourages adult smokers and tobacco users to quit smoking for the first week of each month for a chance to win $500. Interlake Women’s Resource Centre Annual General Meeting: The Interlake Women’s Resource Centre’s Annual General Meeting is on Wednesday September 20, 2017 at the Waterfront Centre (94 1st Ave, Gimli), starting at 6:30pm for membership sign-up and renewals; opening remarks will start at 7pm.

This meeting is a chance to hear about what the centre has accomplished, and goals for the up-coming year.

Our guest speaker will be Rhonda Dagg, Program Specialist with the Department of Families. Rhonda will be speaking about Safe and Together; a new practice model Child and Family Services is utilizing when working with families that have had domestic violence occur.

Also the AGM is when community members from all the communities in our catchment area can become members of the board, as members at large or hold an executive position.
