CITY OF WINDSOR FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT

Firefighter recruitment is handled by the City of Windsor’s Human Resources Department. Information pertaining to the City of Windsor’s firefighter recruitment is available on the City of Windsor’s website www.citywindsor.ca

Be 18 years of age

Possess an Ontario Secondary School graduation diploma or equivalent

Be legally entitled to work in Canada

FIREFIGHTER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

At time of application, an individual must:



Class “D” Ontario Driver’s Licence with “Z” endorsement (to be provided at time

of hiring)

Successfully complete corporate medical assessment

Successfully pass Aptitude Test, Assessment Test, Physical Agility Test, Interview Process

Satisfactory Police Clearance

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS



ADDITIONAL EDUCATION – SKILLS Post secondary education at university or community college in the following will be considered an asset.

WRITTEN APTITUDE TEST (CPS), WRITTEN ASSESSMENT TEST (OS),

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST

The City of Windsor secures the services of an outside provider to administer these tests. The previous service provider selected was Gledhill-Shaw Enterprises.

The Corporation of the City of Windsor reserves the right to review and select a service provider based upon the needs of the hiring department.



WRITTEN APTITUDE TEST (CPS), WRITTEN ASSESSMENT TEST (OS),

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST

All eligible candidates are given the opportunity to participate in the testing components. Candidates are responsible for the administration fees associated with the testing components.

Candidates are provided with information governing the process to be followed and particulars of the testing segments. Candidates are required to successfully pass all test components in order to be considered further in the recruitment process.



WRITTEN APTITUDE TEST (CPS) (Cooperative Personnel Services Test)

This Written Aptitude Test assesses the candidate’s knowledge, skills and aptitudes necessary to succeed as a firefighter in today’s environment. A series of questions, divided into sections, gauge the candidates’ understanding of written and oral information, arithmetic reasoning, maps, diagrams and mechanical drawings.

The Written Aptitude Test is administered to candidates using an established time limit for completion.



WRITTEN APTITUDE TEST (CPS) (Cooperative Personnel Services Test)

Candidates are required to successfully pass the Written Aptitude Test in order to be considered further in the recruitment process.

Administrative fees will be established and applicants will be required to pay these fees in order to participate in the required Written Aptitude Test.



WRITTEN ASSESSMENT TEST (OS) (Occupational Skills Assessment)

This Written Assessment Test is a functional characteristics readiness assessment on functional characteristics that are essential for effective firefighter performance. A series of questions are asked relating to specific emergency scenarios and workplace environment, as well as basic mathematical and logical reasoning.

The Written Assessment Test is administered to candidates using an established time limit for completion.



Candidates are required to successfully pass the Written Assessment Test in order to be considered further in the recruitment process.

Administrative fees will be established and applicants will be required to pay these fees in order to participate in the required Written Assessment Test.

WRITTEN ASSESSMENT TEST (OS) (Occupational Skills Assessment)



FIREFIGHTER FITNESS ASSESSMENT

All candidates are required to successfully pass a Firefighter Fitness Assessment (Physical Agility Test) in order to be considered further in the recruitment process. The series of tests assess the job specific task performance, as well as the fitness of candidates by incorporating tasks that model the work of firefighters.

Administrative fees will be established and applicants will be required to pay these fees in order to participate in the required Firefighter Fitness Assessment (Physical Agility Test).




The City of Windsor reviews the specific test requirements needed and secures a service provider who would be able to administer applicable testing to candidates.

Candidates would be provided with specific details regarding the service provider selected to offer appropriate testing for the Firefighter Recruitment and applicable details associated with the testing component.

The job of a firefighter is physically demanding and requires that the individual possess certain physical attributes. “Preparation for the Written Firefighter Exams” study guides, as well as the internet, offer guidance and exercise regimens that will aid the candidate to prepare for the various testing involved.
