ARE YOU FORGETFUL?

Page 2: are you forgetful

Psalm 77:10-12 And I said, "This is my anguish; But I will

remember the years of the right hand of the Most High." I will

remember the works of the Lord; Surely I will remember

Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all Your work,

And talk of Your deeds.

We may be forgetful at times but there are some

things that we need to be sure we do not

forget…

Page 7: are you forgetful

I. DO NOT FORGET GODA. Hosea 13:4-6 "Yet I am the Lord your God

Ever since the land of Egypt, And you shall know no God but Me; For there is no Savior besides Me. [5] I knew you in the wilderness, In the land of great drought. [6] When they had pasture, they were filled; They were filled and their heart was exalted; Therefore they forgot Me.

I. DO NOT FORGET GODB. We forget God when we allow someone or something

to come between us and God - Judges 8:33-34 So it was, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel again played the harlot with the Baals, and made Baal-Berith their god. [34] Thus the children of Israel did not remember the Lord their God, who had delivered them from the hands of all their enemies on every side;

C. We forget God when we are so filled and rich that we don’t feel a need for God - Deut. 8:18 And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

II. DO NOT FORGET GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS

A. A. Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

B.Three times in Psalm 119 David says he will not forget: [16] I will not forget Your word; [83] I do not forget Your statutes; [109] I do not forget Your law.

II. DO NOT FORGET GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS

C. Following God’s instructions protects us from destruction - Matthew 15:14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch."

D.Following God’s instructions protects our children - Ephes. 6:2-3 "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: [3] "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth."

III. DO NOT FORGET GOD’S FORGIVENESS

A. 2 Peter 1:5-11 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, [6] to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, [7] to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. [8] For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. [10] Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; [11] for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

III. DO NOT FORGET GOD’S FORGIVENESS

B. Remembering our forgiveness leads to virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness & love

C. Remembering our forgiveness keeps us from stumbling and assures our salvation - 2 Peter 2:20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

IV. DO NOT FORGET GOD’S DISCIPLINE

A. Hebrews 12:3-6 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. [4] You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. [5] And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; [6] For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives."

IV. DO NOT FORGET GOD’S DISCIPLINE

B. Expect it – I expected discipline from my father when I did something wrong

C. Grow through it – I think I grew to be a better person because of it (better too much than too little)

D. Love God for it – it took a number of years before I really understood and appreciated my father’s discipline
