Summary A. The author thinks that the current education doesn't

develop lifelong learning in students.B. Education system is only training to students to memorise

and recall compartmentalised facts.C. It is crucial that lifelong learning is key to a student’s

success in life as the world and society is constantly changing.

D. Only a few to no education systems are training students to develop lifelong learning skills, nor prepare students to understand concepts or solve problems well.

Summary

A. The author believes that formal learning processes (systematic delivery of lessons by teachers) should go hand in hand with informal learning (learning that takes place in a variety of places such as work and home)

B. There are 3 approaches that can work well alongside formal education.

Summary

A. The three approaches are: Introduce Collaborative Projects, Introduce Experiential Learning in real settings for short periods of time, and constant assessment of students' understanding

SummaryA. Collaborative projects develop students' skills to find

and search for information on their own, and then apply it accordingly. This also helps students to learn at their own pace.

B. Experiential learning can spark interests or motivate students to pursue their interests and thus promoting proactive lifelong learning.

C. Ongoing assessments allow students to check and evaluate their own learning, whether they are alright or if they need to improve.

Purpose of education

A. Develops students holistically and mentally. B. To prepare for the transition into the workforce.C. To develop the students’ ability to adapt to

changing requirements and circumstances, so that they can apply knowledge creatively in different circumstances.

D. To develop human resources.

How the author's article align with the purpose of education

• Education can be received anywhere, be it formal or not. Platforms such as social media can offer opportunities to obtain knowledge, but the effectiveness of this approach is determined by the attitude of the student

• Students are responsible for their lifelong learning, but schools are also equally as responsible for a student's learning, tus education should be geared towards developing the student's love and interest in learning to prepare them for their transition into the workforce

How the author's article align with the purpose of education

• Today's education system is based on memorising facts and skills instead of integrating and using knowledge. Students are not prepared to utilise the concepts and skills learnt in schools in their daily lives

• Examinations are designed to assess knowledge, and not the application of knowledge that is extremely important in today's fast paced world to adapt to changing circumstances

Changes to implement in the Education System

• Assess students on the way they adapt to problems and apply the knowledge that they have learnt to solve the problem

• More emphasis on experiential learning through internships with companies

• More enrichment and sabbaticals in short periods of time to promote experiential learning and to learn a different skill set

• Introduction of projects competition to develop collaboration and independent learning
