Are BPA free products safe?

Exposure to BPA plastics are known to disrupt endocrine function.

Consequently, many consumers purchase BPA free products which contain Bisphenol S (BPS) or other substitutes.

However, complementary medicine research study published in the journal Endocrinology has revealed that when pre-adiposities cell lines were exposed to BPS this also lead to formation of fat cells.

The study’s senior author Ella Atlas, PhD, of Health Canada, commented, “Our research indicates BPS and BPA have comparable effects on fat cells and their metabolism,”.

She added, “The study is the first to show that BPS exposure can induce the formation of human fat cells.”

Based on these findings Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) practitioners and healthcare professionals should possibly include the avoidance of BPA and BPS products as part of their lifestyle advice to consumers.
