What is it?• At it’s core, Arduino is an

open source single-board microcontroller.• It’s intended for artists,

designers, hobbyists or anyone interested in simple interactive objects that work with the environment.

Page 3: Arduino

A Brief History• Started in 2005 by students in

Italy, the original BASIC Stamp cost roughly $100, which was considered a little pricey for students.• They later decided to make the

hardware lighter, open source and less expensive.• Since 2005 the price has gone

down to roughly $30 for a simple controller but prices can vary depending on what you decide on.

What does it use?• Digital Side• Arduino Sketch• C and C++

• Physical Side• LED’s• Buzzer’s• Breadboards• Resistors• Transistors • Switches• USB

How Does it Work?

Let’s Give it a Whirl!

I’m guessing you want one• At this point, your probably asking yourself where you

can get yourself one of these cool little machines. Well your in luck! Arduino’s are not only easy to find but relatively cheap.• http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Products#.Ux9mcfldXec• As you probably noticed, the prices are all in Euro’s,

but fret not, they have distributors all over the world including over a dozen in the US alone.

Happy Arduino Day!• Since 2005, Arduino has sold

over 300,000 units and spawned even more fans.• On March 29th, people around

the world will come to celebrate Arduino• From people who have a slight

interest in Arduino to people who spend all of their free time using it, Arduino Day is for everyone! • http://day.arduino.cc/

Where I think it will go• As time goes on and more and more people not only

become more comfortable with computers but with coding, I believe that the Arduino will only continue to grow.• It’s a fun, easy to use and program robot like device

that lets anyone feel like they’re programming their own robot.• I am a firm believer that with time not will Arduino

itself expand to a broader audience, but that people will soon create Arduino’s that serve a purpose.

Where I think it will go• Online, you can view more obscure projects.• Anything from an Arduino powered lawnmower to a

fire breathing pony.• http://www.instructables.com/id/20-Unbelievable-Ardui

Exam Questions• Q: When is Arduino Day?• A: March 29th, get hyped!• Q: What kind of programming language does Arduino

primarily use?• A: C++• Q: What is Arduino limited by?• A: Your own imagination, as long as people have good

ideas, people will find a way to bring them to life with Arduino.
