This project aimed to design a solution for one of the main bridges of Teresina, Brazil. The bridge connects downtown to one of the most expensive neighbor-hoods of the city, and traffic jam is a big problem, especially in rush hours. The bridge is surrounded by parks and preservation areas, but how it is designed today makes it an obstacle to connect all those green areas, that are intensive-ly used for sports and recreation.

Supported by the idea of “city for the people”, the proposal relies on giving space to pedestrians and cyclists while connecting the green areas. Thus, the central lane was elevated, and became a linear park, where people can hang, exercise or just even cross the bridge with safety. It was also created exclusive lanes to buses, to speed up public transportation. For its central position and importance in the city of Teresina, the new Bridge JK could encourage new projects based on sustainable development, us-ing alternative means of transportation and reducing car use.

For this project, each student had to choose a city in the world that had never visited and pro-pose any kind of urban intervention through colors. I chose Istanbul, a Turkish city, located half in Asia and half in Europe. A great part of turkish culture is their rich and colorful markets. Their lamps caught my attention in particular for its amazing handicraft quality and diversity of color, so i decided to bring part of that to the city. From those objects, I developed several small color palettes, and assigned each palette to a different neighborhood of the city. My idea is that each neighborhood’s rooftops were painted of those specific colos. Thus, being a city with a hilly terrain, as you go up in level, the city would change its colors, and people could easily to distin-guish the different urban groups.

haiti cluster- housing and landscaping- Port-au-Prince, Haiti- march - july 2013

Project located in Martisan Park, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The goal is to design a self-sustaining temporary residence for artists and artisans who want to go to Haiti to volunteer. To provide better ventilation and resistance to natural disasters, the construction is suspended by trusses made of bamboo, an abundant material in the region and extremely resistant. Also, suspending the construction, the green area was maximized, further improving thermal comfort and providing more planting areas. The extensive roof besides providing shades, also helps to collect rainwater, which is stored in internal containers, and used both on plantations and in own house bathroom. Organic waste from toilets should also be collected and used in the plantations.

At the same park in Haiti, few meters away from the cluster, it was proposed an outdoor theater. To maintain the dialogue with the housing, the concept of the structure was kept and taken a step further. With the idea of connections in mind, a spatial network of autosuportant bamboo was created, respecting the landscape of the park.

It was also important that the theatre could be used in many dif-ferent ocasions, for a different amount of people and with different purposes. The diagrams shows how the theatre can be used, de-pending on the venues and the users.

The site is located between Sixth Avenue and Sullivan Street, downtown Manhant-tan; has a triangular shape and is located next to an existing park. The idea was to use the school site as an extension of the park, and create public spaces on the private site.Taking advantage of New York trend of valuing independent artists, the building was lifted up from the ground level, and two areas of the ground were designated outdoors performance spaces. Just above these locations, voids were opened in-side the building, so that anyone who was in the building, could watch and listen what was happening at the ground level. The idea is to connect students with their audience, and the audience to a different environment of music.

1. Ecumenical Center2. Auditorium

3. Acoustic Shell

Design of the Convention Center for the Federal University of Piauí. The complex has three main centers, namely: Ecumenical Center, Auditorium and Acoustic Shell. The Auditorium is the main block of the complex. It stands out with a monumental spiral staircase, vibrant yellow, which marks its vertical circu-lation.Most of the ground level is open, and can be used for art exposition and meetings at the food court.

A metallic panel was used to protect the building from insolation while enabling air ventilation. The pattern created was inspired by the site plan, and how the buildings connect to each other. The de-sign was also used for the logo of the project.

The Ecumenical Centre has its forms inspired by the irregularity of the terrain, and has a direct pe-destrian entrance to the gatehouse. A large stained glass panel makes the transition between exte-rior and interior, allowing a partial view of the interior of the center, which lies half-buried, causing the user to different sensations, as they will entering the site.

The Acoustic Shell is a place for smaller and informal outdoor presentations. It stands out for its inte-gration with the landscape lines, while still maintaining dialogue with the rest of the complex.
