Research excellenceKSA has, in a relatively short time,established an internationalreputation for the quality of itsresearch. The School has tworesearch centres, the Centre forResearch in European Architecture(CREAte) and the Centre forArchitecture and SustainableEnvironments (CASE).

Centre for Architecture andSustainable Environments(CASE)Research focuses on sustainabledesign and encompasses differentaspects and scales of thesustainable built environmentfrom the individual building to theurban block, promoting the widerenvironmental agenda and keepingthe School at the forefront ofresearch in the field. The Centrealso has a strong interest inunderstanding the environmentalbehaviour of historic buildings andthe strategies originally deployed tomanage the internal environment.

You will also be able to contribute to,and take advantage of, the researchtaking place in the School’s Centrefor Architecture and SustainableEnvironments (CASE), see right.

Our programmeThis taught MSc programme isfor professionals and academicsworldwide with an interest insustainability in the builtenvironment, including architects,engineers, geographers, surveyors,historians and urban designers. It isavailable on a full-time (one-year) orpart-time (two-year) basis.

The MSc promotes a cross-disciplinary approach to research inthe field of sustainability in the builtenvironment, bridging the traditionalboundaries between the arts andthe sciences, research and practice.The programme develops yourdesign skills and gives you thetechnical and scientificunderstanding you need to developsustainable solutions for new andexisting buildings. You also analysehistoric buildings and pastenvironment technologies, whichleads to a critical exploration ofthe historical and cultural contextof sustainability and environmentaldesign.

Postgraduate resourcesThe School is in a self-containedbuilding at the heart of theCanterbury campus. The studiosinclude a dedicated computingsuite and a range of environmentaland construction softwaresupplements located in the maintop-lit studios. There is also a fullyequipped architectural modelworkshop for constructing modelsand large-scale prototypes.

Global outlook andpartnershipsWe are currently developing linkswith other schools of architectureacross Europe. We have had a good history of engagement withthe École Nationale Superieured’Architecture et de Paysagede Lille, in terms of joint design
