e concept of the building, is to create a cottage feel with the constraints of the MCD format of stilt parking+ 4 oors that are allowed. e two duplex apartments are exactly same, in areas and rooms, but dier in their internal treatments and usage since the Pradhans are a highly connected IAS couple with lots of friends. Mr. Khanna, who has retired as Chairman, Reliance Big Entertainment, is a bachelor, living six months in Mumbai and his sister supervises his apartment in his absence.

e lower oor of each apartment consists of double height dining area which looks onto an aesthetic visual of metallic sculptural gigantic owers on wall, over the entire length of 40 feet from upper ground to third oor. e guest bedroom, Kitchen/store and powder room are o this dining area. e dining space also opens out into the huge drawing

and living space.

In the case of the Pradhans, this living space is converted into a beautiful library, so created by a book shelves divider, overlooking a tiny lawn area. In the case of Mr. Khanna, the drawing room is connected to an open modular kitchen, fully equipped with the latest gadgets from Siemens- teppenyaki grill, deep fryer, hob, built in coee maker, microwave, Deep freeze Refrigerators and a dish washer. e wood and glass staircase which goes up from the dining connects to a small lobby. e upper oor in each duplex consists of two bedrooms with attached dress and toilet and a lounge area.

e upper lounge in case of Mrs. Pradhan also has a fully equipped modular open kitchen with all the latest gadgets. e upper oor in the case of Mr. Khanna has a study with small pantry to facilitate him when he is alone on top. His oors have ooring from World of Stones totally. Each oor has a separate servant room and toilet which can be accessed from spiral stairs at the back. e basement is a private den with an oce for Mr. Pradhan and a Home theatre for the family apart from storage areas.

Light also enters the basement by glass in the stilt oor at the back. Care has been taken to grow plants and foliage in the two areas exposed to sky in the parking level.

e entire house needs no articial electric lights during the day since there is natural light from all sides. Each duplex is

centrally air-conditioned with a VRV system which can be customized according to its area-usage. ere are LED lights in the entire house which are automated and intensity

controlled. e toilets have a sensor mechanism to switch on as soon as you enter. e terrace comprises of a terrace lawn with stone seats and a small vegetable patch at

the rear, where recently, they obtained some home grown radishes too! e solar panels are over the staircase sha and are connected to the servant toilets too.

Z-Lounge

March-April 2016 | 17 Architectural Space | DELHI

Z-Lounge is a cozy hangout space with coastal-Mediterranean ambience.

A blue entryway with brightly lit signage leads to a music-lled stronghold for youngsters. It was a challenging task for architects to carve out an aesthetically planned space that could welcome maximum number of guests, quite cost eectively.

Spatiallye lounge spreads across 750 sq. ., thus oering very small space to design. erefore, it was critical to exhibit thoughtful spatial management. Continuous sofa-seating style along wall periphery is chosen to achieve 40 covers. With projector screen as focus, such a peripheral organization saves on the space as well as the budget as sofas use wall for backrest. ere are corner sofas, benches and railway-berth seats for couples. If required, the central seating can be separated into three individual sets. Height of central seating is kept low to give clear view of projector screen at back.

LightLight plays a signicant role in highlighting the character of any space. In Z-Lounge, the space is dimly-lit on regular nights. ere are four types of lights which are used in dierent combinations to achieve dierent mood-lightings. For movie-watching, all but wall lights are turned o. For parties, light through coloured window glass is added. One hanging light throws light on wave-ceiling and center table. Remaining ceiling as dramatic light-shadow patterns emanating from basket lights. Posters are highlighted by

custom-made liquor bottle wall-lights. During day, no articial light is required as light seeps in through patterned coloured glass windows, creating a play of colourful shadows. us, every functional as well as design element is highlighted with thoughtfully allocated lighting. All the lights at Z-Lounge employ LEDs.

FurnitureIn Z-Lounge, the design and the arrangement of furniture play a critical role. In here, the entire furniture is locally designed out of wooden planks and is hand-painted. e rustic metallic nish of tables is achieved by applying colours in layers and then scrapping o extra paint. e process is followed by gloss polishing.

Ceilinge central wavy ceiling steals the show, creating depths to stare at. It is made in MDF, and ns are painted in shades from blue to white generating rhythmic eect of sea waves. Remaining ceiling is kept plain and is lled with shadow patterns from DIY plastic basket lights.

Acoustics and Sound-ProongZ-Lounge exudes the charm of youth and vibrance. us, it magnetizes the crowd that reects the same character. Understanding the same, we incorporated various acoustic measures for good sound-quality and noise reduction. Acoustic panels are used for insulation and sound-proong. Windows are made of sandwiched glass and double-louvered exhaust vents are used for insulation. e furniture, furnishing and the pockets between wave-ceiling absorb ambient noise.

The interior design for application developer’s oce was a challenge in terms of limited budget and

time available for completion of the project apart from a completely new concept of oce space that the client wanted. e oce was to be designed as a very casual space providing the employees a youthful and energetic working environment. Studio Delhi designed the oce as a productive and lively space that inspires creativity, making the best use of existing conditions. e original design intent to create rustic industrial demeanor stands appropriately justied in the nished product.

e oce is planned as a free-owing open space with minimum walls or partitions. e workstations form a part of the open space dened by other spaces requiring enclosure. e oce planning demarcates the working and recreational spaces clearly. e design incorporates an idea room, gaming / café space exclusively as elude for the employees. e spaces designed with a sculptural outlook seem to converge at a very open and informal waiting area, which acts as a focal point of the design. A Brick column in the center of a huge space got into focus with two symmetric Metal - Glass cabins that made space for workstations behind the column.

e lighting design, light xture and switchboards, all accentuate the rustic feel of the space. e wiring and services are exposed, but designed in a way that they do not interfere with the aesthetics of the space, rather compliment and dene certain movements. Since three generations stay together in the house, the prime concern was to provide privacy to each one of them while giving a place to spend family time. Usage of warm materials like wood, leather, wallpaper etc. provide elegance and style to the space while artifacts add to the bright colours giving comfort to the family.

Modern materials in dierent styles & patterns have been used harmoniously with each other that add to the luxury of place and solve functional aspect of every corner.

The highlight feature of the lobby was stone look back-lit acrylic band on the ceiling which converges on drawing room wall creating a partition between lobby & Drawing room. The light from this band brightened up the space & also bind together different areas. The drawing room was finished with 3D work on MDF with white polyester finish which carried the Subtleness. Project Roopchand Jewellery Store

In a wooden box, a piece of jewelry looks glorious, splendid and magnicent. And on the wall on which it is mounted looks like a

canvas of an artist who envisioned a sky at twilight or dawn as his sketch pad for the most ambitious painting.

e sublime and moving space between the chairs, which are upholstered in beige, and the Morris mounted in white and the showcasing dressers that are minimalist in order to let the jewels shine and stand out, is what makes the space almost poetic. And it is in the poetics of spaces that stories emerge. Love stories can happen here. It is that kind of space.

A pair of bangles placed underneath the glass need to breathe and tell its own story. ings must not overlap. ere is a case for standalone things. Around it, the space for stories to form, and for imagination to go on.

Jewelry is art, and for those that sit here deciding between this and that are dreamers. e idea was to paint paisley on the ceilings in subtle hues to let the dreams linger. e white diused glass panel is cloud-like ushering in the soness of light.

At Roopchand, we know that nostalgia is an emotion that is supreme. Jewelry carries on institutions, and echoes the faith in relationships. A daughter readies for marriage because her mother was a shining bride once. at's what mirrors are for. To reect us and our anchors. It is only through the brilliance of an image that the distant past comes closer. is is a place of time travel. ere are no breaks. e colours are subtle and hold their own to let people become what they have always dreamed of becoming - a bride, a mother, a woman.

We wanted to maintain the historical essence of the store. Our inspiration was derived from old rajasthan architecture, and yet for the space to be functional in an urban setting, we improvised and tweaked the narrative for time only moves forward. It is only the gaze that moves in a timeless space. We used cut jali technique from the olden days with new materials and brought about a richer feel to it by using high gloss nishes to use shimmer and glazed to furnish the experience of opulence and adornment.
