Year 2 | BArch

I was born and raised in the island of Rasdhoo located in the Alif alif atoll in Maldives. The island is a dream location for tourists visiting the Maldives, surrounded by white sandy beaches and aqua blue sea. Tourism of the island has led to rapid increase in number of Guest houses and many souvenir shops , opening a gateway for the construction industry.

Currently studying bachelors of art in architectural design (BAAD) at faculty of engineering technology located in the capital city Malé. Completed Edexcel Advanced level certificate at Villa international high. During my free time i used to supervise construction site of my construction group.

EXPLORING THE SPACES

- Its Centre as a main Point of Entrace and Exit- Allows movement to other spaces- Singular volume connected to singular space

COURTYARD

- Centre Space In-accessible- Surrounded by watlk path- Simply a radial spinal space

- Very like as Centric- A open area rarely enclosed- Every side spaces are directly connected to courtyard.

SPINAL

- Centre Space In-accessible- Surrounded by watlk path- Simply a radial spinal space

- Very like as Centric- A open area rarely enclosed- Every side spaces are directly connected to courtyard.

5

EXPLORING THE COMBINATION

The curved linear space is elevated and touches the ground level at two points. This linear path is one way loop path. The space formed in the middle of the linear path is made cloister by using small vertical, horizontal and diagonal gaps from which people can see a limited view of whats

happening inside but the gaps get wider and the image gets clearer when it goes up.

The end of the path is at the top where no boundary is there but due to height people wont be able to go inside but can view the best of whats happening inside the cloister space.

6

EXPLORING THE COMBINATION

COURTYARD + SEQUENTIAL

The triangular shaped courtyard is the dominant shape while making the hybrid shape of this two spaces. The pathways which lead to the courtyard is made sequential by a diminishing effect.

The hybrid will have a simpler

7

EXPLORING THE COMBINATION

CENTRIC + sPINAL

The centric circle which hangs in a unbalaced feel touches the ground at the far most side from the point of access. The spinal spaces are added to this part so that this part of the circle will be considered as the linear path which connects the spinal spaces.

All exit and entrance to these spinal spaces are the most dominant centric space in the middle. There is a walkable path in the circle elevated around the centric space.

narrative

Everyone would agree to that this is not how we Maldivians use to be. We do remember the times where there were no rigid boundary between my home and the adjacent still things were going smooth. That was much better. Due to the multicultural and territorial transformation our homes have become a “military base” where the walls go up high to 6 meters. There are the things we missed from out past that is the reason why we are in this situation today. We lived with a very satisfied life with semi-open spaces. The small things we do involves our neighbors and the community was very strong. The house don’t have very large private spaces but the necessity spaces arranged in a unique layout in a large compound where the life runs smoothly. The compound connects the spaces within the house and also connects the house to the surrounding environment. The idea of this compound is used in my design in a vertical alignment. This indeed is drawing a line between what we have today and what we missed from our past.
