President’s Column

The MAA Website is looking good. The 2019 tournament dates and locations are posted. Information is continually being added and the site will soon be a “first class / one stop” site for all of our members.

Indoor leagues and youth programs are ramping up at clubs, pro shops, and schools. The archery programs and activ-

ities that we have in Michigan make us one of the leading archery states in the country. Michigan currently has the fourth largest NFAA membership (behind California, Florida, and Texas). And, for our Junior archery programs, if we can retain at least 5% of those archers after they become adults, our sport of archery will continue to grow.

It makes me proud to see MAA members bringing home Sectional, National, and International titles. With that being

said, I’m happy to announce that the 2019 North American Field Archery championship will be held in Michigan. The Washtenaw Sportsman’s Club’s bid for the tournament was accepted by the NFAA Councilman. The tournament will be held August 23-25. The NFAC is a three day tournament and IFAA rules will apply. More information will be posted in the next issue of Archery in Michigan, and the NFAA Archery magazine.

A decision has been made for the new position of MAA Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator. There were

several well qualified people that were interested in this position, and anyone one of them would have been a good choice. In the end, it was decided that Ted Lemanski will be leading this position. Ted brings years of Sales and Marketing experi-ence to this position. I look forward to seeing the creative enhancements that Ted brings to the MAA.

I look forward to seeing you at the indoor tournaments, Yours in archery, Mike

present and were recognized and noted.

2. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Minutes from the Spring 2018 Meeting were reviewed. Motion made by Ron Hall, seconded by Jack Romeo, to accept the minutes of the previous meeting with corrections. MOTION PASSED.

3. PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS Mike Spence thanked all for attending today’s meeting. Emails sent in Mike Spence’s name requesting money are

spam and should be deleted. This is part of the problem with having email addresses on the website. Outdoor shoots have been well attended. There are still issues with the 3D shoot including problems with the results.

Even when corrected, they were published incorrectly in the AIM magazine. This will be corrected in the next magazine. Scoring and rules have changed often and it makes it difficult for participants to keep up with changes. Rules need to be clear in the opening instructions. Starting time for the 3D was asked to be switched to 10 am.

Variance requested and given for 900 switching shooting from west to east. Introduced new webmaster Sherry Lance. She is currently working on State Records. Sherry requested pictures

from MAA events to be sent to her, check contact information. Mike wanted to appointment a Marketing and Promotions coordinator. Toni Falk will not be able to take the position.

Mike has two other candidates in mind. 4. MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR'S REPORT Carol Bitner presented her written report. There are 627 total MAA members. .Membership is down 112 people from

this time last year. Motion made by Jim Grubba, seconded by Jack Romeo to accept the Membership Coordinator’s Report. MOTION

PASSED. 5. TREASURER'S REPORT Rick Hotchkiss presented the written Treasurer’s Report. The report detailed income and

expenses from all sources including charters, club teams, interest, map books, membership fees, patches, pins, tournament fees, club splits, office supplies, and miscellaneous. The report included the Balance Sheet showing current assets including money in the checking and savings accounts and inventory.

A motion was made by Rusty Curtis, seconded by Jim Grubba to accept the Treasurer’s Report. MOTION PASSED.

6. CHARTER SECRETARY'S REPORT Carol Bitner presented her written report. There are 51 clubs affiliated, 20 MAA only, 31 NFAA/MAA. Carol will be

mailing the MAA only renewals in November. Please keep Club contact information updated with Carol. A motion was made by Jack Romeo, seconded by Dave Barnsdale to accept the Charter Secretary’s Report. MOTION

PASSED.

7. EXECUTIVE SECRETARY'S REPORT: Trish Jackson presented her verbal report. Despite handing out the contracts to all Association representatives at the Spring meeting, only 3 were returned prior to today’s meeting. Trish thanked Washtenaw Sportsmen’s, Muskegon Bowmen and Detroit Archers Clubs for returning their contracts in a timely manner. Kay Core asked how do changes in contracts (contacts, venues etc) get updated. Both changes for 2018 were extreme last minute changes. Changes were listed on FaceBook but some people don’t have access. A motion was made by Larry Boone, seconded by Jack Romeo, to accept the verbal report. MOTION PASSED.

8. AWARD SECRETARY'S REPORT Scott Hanson presented his verbal awards report. He requested that Associations pick up their members awards and

distribute to their Association members. We do not need to order awards since we have adequate supplies. All results were out to Board within 24 hours of Scott receiving them. There is a perception that the results don’t come out in a timely manner. Score cards are still being filled out inaccurately especially kids. Please make sure that sponsoring clubs fill out the top of the scorecards as instructed in the “How to Run a Shoot” document.

A motion was made by Dave Barnsdale, seconded by Jack Romeo, to accept the verbal report. MOTION PASSED. 9. EDITOR'S REPORT John Dumar presented his verbal report. He has contacted the advertisers to pay up for their ads. Ads cost Full page

$37.50, ½ page $18.75, ¼ page $ 9.50 for each issue. A motion was made by Ron Hall, seconded by Lora Smith, to accept the verbal report. MOTION PASSED. 10. NFAA DELEGATE'S REPORT Mike Spence presented his NFAA Delegate report:

NFAA headquarters has a new phone number, 605-260-9279. The 800 number is no longer in use. Information from the Great Lakes Sectional Meeting held at Panther Creek Archers during the Outdoor Sectional

tournament in June: Vegas 2019 will have a Barebow Recurve flight. I expect the same to be passed at the next NFAA BoD

for the 2020 indoor and outdoor nationals The next NFAA BoD meeting will be held in Yankton, July 2019, in conjunction with the National Field

Championship The 2019 Field Championship will be held in Yankton, not Darrington, due to a date conflict for

Darrington. Darrington will host the 2020 Field Championship as well as the IFAA World Field Championship.

Michigan has gone back to two venues for the 2019 indoor sectional championship, Capital Area Sportsmen’s Club and Straightline Archery. Date February 23 & 24, 2019. Both contracts were completed well ahead of schedule, so there shouldn’t be any reason why all the information isn’t in the next Archery Magazine. At Sectional tournaments, USA Archery members must fill out a membership form that will be sent to the NFAA headquarters so NFAA has their address.

Date for the NFAA indoor national championship is March 15-17, 2019. This is the last year for Cincinnati under the current contract. Bids for 2020-2022 are due by July 1st.

2019 Great Lakes Sectional championship will be held June 15&16, and will be the last year in Illinois at Panther Cree Archers. Wisconsin is up next.

Awards for the O/D sectional were sent out in less than three weeks due to the results being sent to NFAA headquarters immediately after the tournament,

*****PLEASE tell your club secretaries to notify the NFAA headquarters of changes to club contact information so renewal notices reach the correct people.*****

wrong location when tournament location was changed. Mike Spence explained that change was done by the Association and not the MAA. Dan has attempted to reach out to him but he has expressed desire to discontinue his membership. Carol Bitner and Dan Reed will write a letter on behalf of the SVAA.

Page 7: Archery in Michigan - Michigan Archers Association · Walt and Cindy Moyer Mike Lifford Dan Reed James Grubba 8465 Genese Rd 4687 Nixon Rd 1510 E Gay Ln 11503 W. Dodge Rd. ... the

DUES Membership form needs to be updated to reflect changes in NFAA dues structure. Carol Bitner made a

motion seconded by Jim Grubba to change the Membership form to the amounts charged by NFAA. ($14.00 first add and $9.00 each additional add) MOTION PASSED

MAA hasn’t raised or changed dues since January 2000 and only for the first person. Michigan dues are in line with average state dues.

Outdoor Tournaments Dave Barnsdale made a motion for Pros would have to be paired with their peers on first and second

day of the tournament. No second- MOTION DIED 3D Scoring Will need to make explanation clear for scoring. The scoring is Redding scoring and not regular 3D

scoring. Top of the Scorecards are supposed to be filled out by the Host Club, which wasn’t done this last year.

John Dumar made a motion, second by Jim Grubba to change maximum 3D distance to 60 yards. WEIGHTED BALLOT 42 yes MOTION PASSED

Ron Hall made a motion, second by Jim Grubba to eliminate any elevated stand shots for 3D. All shots must be ground shots. WEIGTHED BALLOT 42 yes MOTION PASSED

John Dumar made a motion, second by Larry Boone to eliminate orange spots with scoring to be 10, 8, 5. WEIGHTED BALLOTT: 21 yea, 18 no 3 abstain MOTION FAILED

John Dumar offered to work with Detroit Archers to come up with a solution to get the orange spots to

stick. Spot should be centered in the 10 ring. .Scoring remains 11, 10, 8 (lungs 10, body 8) Time Clocks- Digital Timer John Dumar demonstrated a Digital Time (Android app Chrono Bow is free) using Chromecast.

Internet access is needed. ASSOCIATION QUESTION John Dumar received a request for a club to move to MET, but the club is physical located in TCAA.

The club has added an address in MET area and joined that Association too. There is nothing in the MAA Constitution or By Laws preventing them from chartering in both Associations as long as they pay MAA charter and Association charters for both clubs.

TARGET ORDERS Jeff Hunt passed out the Maple Leaf target order forms. Jeff must have them by December 1, 2018 in

order to get the 5000 order pricing. Rick Hotchkiss explained that the dual face MAA face is available. MI-3P is the new code for the new dual face MAA target. This target eliminates the 1 ring on the single spot MAA target.

By Laws error Page 7 Article VI section 1 list of Associations. Michiana is listed as Michigan. Would like to correct to

Michiana Field Archery League.
