August 12, 2016 Dear Parish Administrator: Many of you have seen first-hand the devastating effects that opioid addiction has on our communities. In an effort to address the growing opioid epidemic in Massachusetts, and to encompass a pastoral response plan for all types of debilitating addictions, Cardinal Seán O’Malley recently established an archdiocesan task force. One of the goals of the task force is to identify and develop parish pastoral support programs for victims, their families, and communities within the Archdiocese of Boston. Our first step is to identify outreach and education programs that already exist in our parish communities, and to determine the need and desire for additional resources. To help us in this effort, we ask you to please take a moment to complete our brief but important survey: https://rcab.formstack.com/forms/addiction_support_survey Your assistance and input is very much appreciated as together we work towards bringing the mercy and compassion of our Savior Jesus Christ to those victims, family members and loved ones suffering from the ravaging effects of addiction. Sincerely, Deacon James Greer, Healthcare Ministry, Task Force Co-Chair Joseph McEnness, Office of Risk Management, Task Force Co-Chair

Pastoral Planning Evangelization Notices

0th Wedding Anniversary Mass August 21~ Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Lots to think about with all three readings today. Isaiah is speaking on behalf of the Lord, directly to us: “…proclaim my glory among the nations” What might be a bit more challenging for us today is to proclaim God’s glory to our neighbor or brother-in-law, or co-worker. Tell YOUR story of the importance of Jesus in your life. As missionary disciples we’re called to proclaim God both near and far. And, in case we miss the point, the Church, in her wisdom gives us a reminder in today’s psalm refrain: Go out to all the world and tell the good news! (Yes, even, gently, lovingly, to the grouchy neighbor next door!) August 28~ Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s readings are bookended by humility. Sirach: “conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts.” And in the parable in Luke, “everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Bishop Robert Barron, quoting Saint Thomas Aquinas, says, “Humility is truth.” Humility is not head hung low, in self-deprecation. Rather, humility is recognizing that all we have and all we are is a gift from God. Our task is to thank God for the gifts we have been given – starting with life – and use those gifts to praise and glorify God and help others draw closer to Him.
