Why Create ArchaeoFusion?

To implement and streamline approaches developed during a previous project…

New Approaches to the Use and Integration of Multi-sensor Remote Sensing for historic Resource Identification and Evaluation (SERDP CS-1263)

The Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) is the Department of Defense's environmental science and technology program.

Project Team:

Dr. Ken Kvamme (UA)Dr. Fred Limp (CAST,UA)Dr. Michael L. Hargrave (ERDC CERL) Dr. Eileen Ernenwein (CAST,UA)

Reasoning for this project:

• Previous project showed power of a multi-sensor archaeo-geophysical approach and data integration to US federal government.

• Data processing when using the approach requires too many different software packages, format conversions, and repetitive tasks (a high level of expertise).

• We envisioned a single software package that would allow processing and integration of GPR, magnetometry, resistivity, and electromagnetic induction data, and any other raster-based data in generic or interchange formats.

The Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) is a Department of Defense (DoD) program that promotes innovative, cost-effective environmental technologies.

• Bring in most brands of mag, res, gpr, and EM data without having to use other software first (besides downloading)

• Allows different sized tiles (grids) with different resolutions and orientations

• Create macros for common operation stacks.• GIS-like layered environment w/ real world coordinates• Operation stack is fully editable and can be saved and reused for

other data• Can bring in aerial photos and topographic data• “Fusion” = PCA, translucent overlays, RBG combos, pixel-based

math operations (sum, max, etc.)• Automatic edge matching• Mean profile filter

ArchaeoFusionNew Software for Archaeogeophysical Data Processing and Integration

• Electromagnetic Induction• Magnetometry• Resistivity• GPR (guided step-by-step processing)• GIS-style layers and overlays• Plane and real-world coordinates• 3D surfaces• User-specified grid sizes • Different sized tiles in one survey• Pixel-based operations between surveys

• Data Fusion (integration)• Principle Components Analysis• Multi-resolution surveys• K-means Cluster Analysis• Translucent Overlays• Interactive Operations Stack• Great for sharing and teaching• Build your own macros• Re-run operations as you add more data• Import topographic surfaces and

aerial photos
