Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy, and where thievesbreak in and steal.
But store up for yourselvestreasures in heaven, where moth and rust
do not destroy, and where thieves do not
break in and steal. For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.(Matthew 6:19-21)
Why exactly shouldn’t we store up
treasureshere on earth?
How on earth do we “store up treasures in
heaven?”
No one can serve two masters.
Either he will hate the oneand love the other,
or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serveboth God and money.
(Matthew 6:24)
Why can’t we serve two masters?
Are you rich?
How hard it is for the richto enter the kingdom of God!Indeed, it is easier for a camel
to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man
to enter the kingdom of God.(Luke 18:21-25)
Many live as enemiesof the cross of Christ.
Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach,
and their glory is their shame.Their mind is on earthly things.
(Philippians 3:18b-19)
I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many
years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” But God said to him,
“You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then
who will get what you have prepared for yourself? This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich
toward God. (Luke 12:19-21)
Command those who are richin this present worldnot to be arrogant
nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain,
but to put their hope in God,who richly provides us
everything for our enjoyment.(1 Timothy 6:17)
What do these verses say to the
worldas we see it today?
FINAL QUESTION:
Are we serving God . . .
or something else?
