Publicinterfaceandprivateaccommodationspacestakeup3levelsoftheNishibuildinglocatedinNewActonPrecinctofCanberra.Ithascreatedarichmixoflivingandentertainment,workingandrecreation,artandurbangrainsallatthesametime.Theaimwastolettheguestsfeelasindividualswhichallowsthemtopossesandengagewiththeinteriorsratherthanpassivelyinhabitingthem.Thereisalsoacontinuouslookoutforwaystoincludeartists,craftspeopleanddesignerstocontributetowardstheoverallexperienceinandoutsidethehotel.

-Thelandscapeseepsinandoutofthearchitecturebothverticallyandhorizontallyspreadandvariedinstyleacrossthesite.
Spaceiscontrolled andformal forshortterm hang
outs,meetingspaceorpeoplegazing.Useofsculpturestoemphasizeanareacreatingcon-nectionsofferingdynamicspatialprograms.
Timberfacadeincorporates90plantboxes,includingmixtureofclimbersandlow-level, lowwater plantspe-ciestoincreasebiodiversityofthestructureandassitinkeepingcool.
Secretgardenextendingoutof thebuildingontothemainstreetbringingtheinteractionoftheout-sidewiththeinsideandanopenspaceforgather-ingormeetings.Alsousedasaninformalentryandexitpoint.
Landscapes seep into crevixes,contrasting withCanberra’s vastscales.
INTERNALORGANIZATION
-Hotelhastwoentrances.PrimaryentranceisdenedbyawallofblackperforatedmildsteelwithyellowglasswhiletheCommercialentranceisdenedastheGrandStairswithrecycledtimberco-ordinatedtogethertocreateaverywelcomingwarmuniquespaceduringdayandnight.
-Lobbyisdenedwiththemixmaterialofcustomglulamtimberandprecastconcretebeamswhichareunadorned,stackedinasimplemanner,overlappingwiththeirjointsandpokingout.
-Thecentrefeasting/restaurant/barareaissurroundedbythreeloungeareasandlobbywhichmixandmergetheowofprogramscreatingasocialandculturalhubforguests,residentsandvistorstolingeraround. -Thetablesinthefeastingareacanbesplitaparttocreateindividualtablesorbroughttogetherforabiggatheringcreateaversatilespace. -Hotelroomsareuniqueininteriorsandsimpleinplanningwhichmakeitadaptablede-clutteredenvironmentwhichcreateasuitedspacetorepose,reectandintrospect.Itcreatesatmosphereforpeopletowithdrawinorengagewiththeoutsideworld.

-Thetimberworkandexternalthreedimensionalconcreteworkcometogetheraroundacentralatriumwhichdrawslightandventilationintothe deeperpositionedhotelroomsandprivateresidences.
-Lightistheprimaryfactorcreatingvisualsensoryexperiencesinthefoyerandroomsbeitnaturalorarticial. -Eachapartmentisdesignedtomaximisenaturallightandcrossventilation.Thewindowsareaccessiblewindowsthatcanbeopenedwhich minimisetheusageofairconditioningsystemsintheindividualrooms. -Thecentralatriumisnegativelypressurisedcomparedwiththeexteriorduetowinddynamicsaroundthebuilding.Hence,wheneverawindowis open,crossventilationoccursthroughtherooms.

Therailwaystopistobeintegratedwithitssurroundingenablingthecommuterstobeengagedwithanincidentalscaleofconnectednegrainencoun -tersthatmayactascatalystinfrastructureforurbaninitiativesandcreativeinteraction.Intentionwithintheproposalistobeembeddailyroutineoflightrailcommutingwithinaconguartionofpossibilities,spontaneous,connectedandurban,ingrainedatthestreetscale.
Asnoticedintheaboveartistimpression,itisanintegratedopenglasscanopystopwhichprovidesshelteryetbeingpartofthegreatersurrounding.Thelightrailstopisnothinderingviewsorinteractionbutrunningalongitsowncorridorimprovingthespeedandreliabilityoftheservice.Thegreenlightrailcorridorenhancestheenvironmentvisuallyandevironmentallytooinsteadofconcreteorpaving.
DESIGN
Thestopsaresimpleinformandprovidethebasicnecessityforcomfortofthecommuters: -Shelterforcommutersprovidingprotectionfromtheweatherbeitsunnyorrainy. -Passengerinformationdisplayabouttraveltime,routesorinformationabouttravelcardsetc. -Ticketmachinesfortravelcardsortickets. -Stationsignageprovidingwaydingforcommutersaroundthesiteandstationnametoidentifystationstop. -Accessfordifferentcommutersbeitwheelchair,prams,etc. -Bencesforthecommuterswhilewaitingfortheirtrain.

structureandisversat ile inholdingpublicgather ingsaswell. RIPPLEGARDEN-funsideofthegarden,gettingthevisitorsandpasserbytoinvolvethemselvesphysicallywiththelandscapebycreating ripples inthesurface.Thepublicelement isalsoknownasthe“SlowSeeSaws”.

DESIGN
Circulationbeingthemainfactor,thear-easandprecinctsweredecidedaroundit.Movementsacrossandalongthesiteforeasier accessto differentpointsin theuniversity.
RippleGardenandUrbanFrame areonthelowerendofthesitesoastocreatearelationbetweenplayandwork.Urbanframeisalignedalongtotheripplegardenandaccessmovement.
Alumnisquarecirculationasillustratedisnondirectionalgatheringspacewithpav-ingandraisedturfpodiumsasagather-ing/informaleventspace.
Gatewayaccessi ntothe alumnisquareisonthegroundooraroundthebuildingandinbetweenthestudyareas.
Thecafewallfacingthe alumnisquareactsasaoutdoorscreeningfacilityandgatheringlocationforviewers.
Themoresemiprivatestudyandexhibi-tionspacesarelocatedonupperoorsoftheurbanframededicatedtostudents,staffandalumni.
