In a web browser goto:  http://www.esri.com/landing‐pages/software/arcgis/arcgis‐desktop‐student‐trial 

 

   

Click Sign‐ip for Your FREE ESRI Global Account to create a new 

account or click Login with Your Existing ESRI Global Account if you 

alreay have an account. 

 

 

Note:  The ESRI Global Account is also used to access ArcGIS Online at 

http://www.arcgis.com 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Enter the authorization number provided by your instructor and then 

click the Activate ArcGIS button. 

 

 

 

 

 

Click the button for the version of ArcGIS you which to use.  ArcGIS 

10.2 is the latest release of ArcGIS.

Make a note of the authorization number: EVAXXXXXXXXXX. An email 

will also be sent to the email address assigned to ESRI Global Account. 

This authorization number is not the same as the one given to you by 

your professor.  The number will be used to activate ArcGIS. 

 

Select the Download button next to ArcGIS for Desktop to start the 

download process.  You can also download any of the other features 

such as the Tutorial Data but not required to run ArcGIS. 

 

 

 

Note:   

ArcGIS required Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 to run.  ArcGIS will not install if he framework is not install first. Most 

Windows OS already have the framework.  If you get an error during install process you will need to download and 

install the .Net framework and then retry the install. 

 

Windows 8 the Microsoft .Net framework 3.5 SP1 must be enabled using the installation media.  Make sure the media is

for the correct version of Windows (x32 or x64). Otherwise, the command line will fail.  Run a command prompt (cmd) with elevated rights ('as Administrator').

Run the following command:

dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:E:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

where "E:\sources\sxs" is the sxs path of your Windows 8 installation media.

Reboot.

Open the folder where ArcGIS was downloaded and double‐click the 

ArcGIS_Desktop_102_135736.exe file.   

 

 

Browse or enter a destination folder for the extracted files 

and click OK. 

 

 

 

Make sure Launch the setup program is checked and click

Click Next.  Click I accept the license aggreement and then click

Select Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use and click the    Select I have installed my software and need to 

Authorize Now button.            Authorize it and click Next.

Select Authorize with ESRI now using the Internet    Enter your info and click Next.

Enter info and click Next.          Enter authorization number that was abtained from 

page 3 of this document (NOT the one provided by 

instructor).  Click Next.

Select I have authorization number(s) to authorize    Click Finish. 

one or more extensions .  Click next to each extension 

and enter the same authorization number used above 

and then click Next.             

 

 

 

 

Select Availability in the ArcGIS Administrator to verify license 

is working and then click OK

You can access the ArGIS Administrator from 

Start / All Programs / ArcGIS / ArcGIS Administrator

Open the folder where ArcGIS was downloaded and double‐click the 

ArcGIS_Desktop_Tutorial_Data_102_136050.exe file. 

 

 

Browse or enter a destination folder for the extracted 

files and click OK. 

 

 

                       Make sure Launch the setup program is checked
